Stop Radar Traps on Millcreek and Copenhagen Road running 24x7x365

Our subdivision has already been reduced to 40km per hour, we are now a COMMUNITY SAFETY ZONE. Let's look at Copenhagen Rd. It’s 1.37 KM long and has 4 stop signs!!! And now we have 2 RADAR TRAPS that run 24/7 setup to get into our subdivision!!! Imagine friends and relatives coming to visit you and leaving in the late evening and not realizing these radar traps run 24/7. Neighbours who work shifts coming and going all times of the day and night having to slow down to 30km in a 40km per hour SAFETY ZONE!! The roads leading into our area do not go through to anywhere else, you come into our area and exit the same way you came in, there is no thoroughfare.  The City is using our Tax Dollars to criminalize US.  So we are basically being double taxed!!

Our city representative, Ward 9 Councillor, Pat Saito, successfully moved a motion in May of 2021 to accelerate plans for more speed cameras in the city, boosting the program from two cameras to 22 by the end of the 2021.

Previously, city staff recommended the ASE program start with two cameras due to concerns of courts being unable to handle a potential influx of trial requests resulting from photo radar tickets. Now they want to setup their own court system!!!!

"I'm not as worried about the revenue (HOW ABOUT THE DAMN EXPENSE!!) and I'm not as worried about the appeals as I am about the main goal of this program, (which) is to prevent speeding, to deter speeding and the speed cameras do that," Saito said at a May 19 council meeting. RUBBISH....ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!

AND THAT’S NOT ALL...take a look at the costs going forward!!!!!!! June 29, 2022 council meeting OUTRAGEOUS!! We are talking into the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!!

This is the Policy in Mississauga for Traffic Calming

Policy Title:

Traffic Calming

Policy Number: 10-09-03

Development/Consultation/Approval

4. If the site qualifies, prioritize it on the list of Traffic Calming locations based on the data results and other factors, such as collision frequency, resident support and available budget.

I was told that the locations for each camera are prioritized using a data-driven approach that considers the severity of speeding in the area and other factors(what other factors?) such as traffic volumes, collision history and site suitability.

The ASE program is not a complaint-driven initiative, locations are proactively determined based on data that shows there is a speeding concern.

Data has shown that the cameras are very successful at reducing speeds with some locations seeing a 16km/h reduction in the 85th percentile speed and compliance of the posted speed limit increasing by 40% in some cases. Early data on Copenhagen Road shows a 7km/h reduction in the 85th percentile speed and a 16% increase in compliance of the posted speed limit.

Take note that they used 1 days data to arrive at a speeding issue in our neighbourhood and they do not give you the time of day that the data was arrived at nor the number of vehicles (is that 2 vehicles, 10, 100?.

Running these radar traps 24/7 even when school is out is completely unreasonable. Simply stepping on the gas from a stopped position at the stop sign or turning out of the small plaza could easily put you over 30km..you are literally 50 feet from the RADAR TRAP. Turning right from Tamar Road leads you right into the radar trap with no warningthis is entrapment. What is the safety issue in a school zone at midnight or even later? or when school is not in?? I would also like to see the total number of requests for these from the neighbours in our area. The Millcreek RADAR TRAP is the most obvious one that should not be 24/7. There are no residential homes on Millcreek. It is all industrial and commercial businesses – except the private school, which is gated and locked when not in use. There are folks on bicycles doing more than 30KM an hour!

The next bit of lunacy is the installation of the SLOW signs in the middle of Copenhagen Road. What an absolute waste of time and money. These signs will have to be removed every fall for snow plowing and reinstalled every spring!!!

The people responsible for installing these measures don't live here and should not be making decisions on behalf of the local residents. How many angry citizens is it going to take to have these things removed? What’s clear to me is that this isn't about public safety, it's about filling City Coffers! These recent changes must be repealed immediately, before our tax dollars are used for more “safety measures” that will ultimately do us all more harm than good.

PLEASE....PLEASE....help me out for the good of our neighbourhood.
