A Petition to Keep Professor Zeynep Kiriş at Koç University

A Petition to Keep Professor Zeynep Kiriş at Koç University

In light of Koç University’s decision to terminate online education completely, we urge the administration to make an exception for the MAVA (Media and Visual Arts) department. MAVA courses focus on highly specialized fields, and finding instructors who are both academically and professionally proficient, as well as capable of building strong communication with students, is extremely difficult and crucial.

One of the key courses in this department, 207 Visual Design, serves as a comprehensive introduction to digital art and is a foundational course for students pursuing careers in this field. The knowledge gained in this course directly influences students’ progress in other creative courses.

One of the main reasons this course has been highly effective and well-received for years is Professor Zeynep Kiriş’s teaching approach. Her education and work experience in the U.S., combined with her interactive and hands-on teaching style, have allowed students to engage deeply with the subject matter. For many students, this course has been more than just an academic requirement—it has played a critical role in shaping their creative careers.

However, with the university’s decision to end online education, Professor Zeynep Kiriş is now being removed from Koç University. This decision is not only a loss for her but also for the students and the entire MAVA department. Losing Professor Kiriş would create a major disadvantage for students looking to advance in this field and would negatively impact the academic quality of the department.

As students of Koç University, we strongly request that Professor Zeynep Kiriş remains at our university. We invite you to stand with us by signing this petition in support of our cause.
