Absolute disgrace that such a large urban population could be deprived of fundamental and essential medical services. Shame on our government (and local representatives) yet again!!

Portlaoise A&E saved my mother's life earlier this year. She was readmitted suffering post-op complications after being discharged from a Dublin hospital.
It's unclear if she'd have survived if she'd have had to travel further afield. The doctors and nurses in Portlaoise A&E were professional, dedicated and responsive. We need to keep this service going for all the people of Portlaoise and the surrounding area.

I'm a community nurse in Laois and know only too well how much every person young and old may one day require the services of a good local A and E service

Because the A&E service at the Regional Hospital at Portlaosie is of major importance to the people of the surrounding areas.

From Laois and have lots of family members there. Also believe in common sense, something that is missing in the HSE and with politicians.

the A and E Department of Portlaoise Hospital is essential for Co Laois in an emergency Tullamore is too far away

A town as big as Portlaoise and its surrounding catchment area needs its own A&E. Tullamore is too far if it is an emergency.

Because I am from Stradbally and was often in A& E and received top class attention

We really do need to have Portlaoise A&E left open, it covers a large catchment area & is a much used A&E.. Where are people supposed to go if it closes ???

I was admitted twice to Portlaoise A & E. The care I got on both occasions was super. Both were urgent admissions, I don't like to think about how I would have fared if I had to travel further.

It Is an necessity To have a General Hospital, And Accident And Emergency Department, in that part of Ireland. Dublin is too far away, for people in Rural Ireland. Closing is not an option.

I live in the Midlands and have relatives in Portlaoise & I know that it is important to have A & E services available locally.

It's an absolute joke that we even need to sign a petition to keep such a vital service open!

Portlaoise A&E is needed. Where are emergencies to go otherwise? Tullamore is stressed as it is. Everyone doesn't live in Dublin where there is services around every corner. All the money that was spent on Portlaoise Hospital, is that to be wasted? We have had enough of that. All the bonuses the top people get, they are paid handsomely already. Put that money to hiring more caring staff. KEEP PORTLAOISE A&E.

I think the HSE needs to cop on and do the right thing. They need to realise that Portlaoise is in a very strategic position. Consider a major accident on the motorway in the Portlaoise area?????

The closing of Portlaoise A&E at 20.00 hrs nightly would be detrimental to the people of Laois, North Carlow and South Kildare It would lead to overcrowding in Tullamore Hospital, Naas Hospital and gradually filter on to the Dublin Hospitals Also the Prison service would be disrupted if prisoners needed medical attention and would need extra security and transport to the other hospitals This could pose a safety risk to prison staff and the public in general
