Issues and concerns with digital degree certificates at Linköping University

Linköping University has been issuing degree certificates only as PDF since December 2018. This has changed how a graduate student can use their degree certificate in a number of regards. In particular, getting the digital degree certificate accepted as a trustworthy and professional document in a convenient way all over the world is not straightforward, and can compromise job applications.  

A detailed list of concerns and related issues can be found here. It was compiled by the dedicated working group of LiUPhD and DoStuC with input from employees, undergraduate and graduate students. These points have been presented to the university in various ways. Some have partially been addressed, while others remain unhandled. 

We who sign this petition call on the university to take the above concerns seriously and: 

• acknowledge that these problems and concerns exist and are relevant for the signatories. 
• start investigating all the presented concerns and issues from the above document with the objective of addressing all of them. This improvement process should include representatives of the students’ and alumni’s interests. 
• communicate transparently about the progress made on all these points and the timeframe for handling them.
