Jury Duty Petition

For the longest time ever, Jury Duty has been something that citizens are forced to go to and technically you can be given a bench warrent if you fail to attend Jury Duty without calling and giving an explanation of why you didn't show up. Over time, however, officers have become less and less likely to actually arrest those who fail to appear to Jury Duty but people are still technically supposed to show up whether or not they want to. I deeply believe that Jury Duty should be a voluntary thing and not forced for a variety of reasons. 

1) Most of the time, when you show up, you either don't actually get asked questions to see if you're an unbiased person or you answer the questions in a biased manner that gets you off the hook. So basically it's just a huge waste of time.

2) A good handful of people aren't happy when they have to attend; therefore, when they show up, they're going to be angry and anger can make a person very biased due to not being in the right state of mind.

3) There are plenty of people who do actually enjoy showing up to Jury Duty so it wouldn't be that big of a deal anyways.

4) Jury Duty takes away a lot of time from people that they could be using for way more important things such as studying for a college test, attending work so they can make money to keep food on the table for their family and pay bills, or help their children with homework or work on fixing any mental or health issue the child or the adult himself or herself might have.

So to sum this up, I hope you can see and understand why I believe Jury Duty should be a voluntary thing and NOT a mandatory thing. I understand very much that most people don't even care about Jury Duty and just ignore it but it would be nice to be able to legally avoid Jury Duty. I hope you will please take a minute to sign and or share this petition to hopefully accomplish this goal of making it voluntary instead of mandatory. Thank you for your time.
