Petition against granting bail to the suspect involved in a spate of robberies

We, the undersigned residents of Mathibestad, Makapanstad,Lefatlheng, Dertig and Danhouse express our wish for the suspects not to be granted bail. The suspects are involved in a spade of robberies and house breakings in and around the stated areas. Because of the fear and terror instilled in us as the community we decided to embark on a relentless effort to put our shoulders behind the wheel in the fight against crime hence our efforts have let to their arrest. As law abiding citizens, we vowed never to take the law into our own hands and after successfully tracking and tracing them we called the police to arrest them which they did much to our delight and satisfaction.

We further hasten to say that within less than two hours of committing robbery and theft that led to their arrest 0n 21 October 2024, they had already sold the cell phone they stole. This clearly indicates that they are masters in the commission of crime and further that it is seemingly their way of life.
Our fear is that if they were released on bail they are likely to continue terrorising the communities. We further noticed that the suspects have a notorious and fearsome reputation within the community of Mogogelo where they were arrested. Granting them bail has a high risk of creating an impression that our justice system is lenient on offenders, and this is highly likely to diminish our trust and confidence in our courts in dispencing justice.

Denying them bail would therefore be tantamount not only to doing justice but also for it to be seen to be done and would further re-invigorate our resolve to continue in our daily efforts to fight against crime and would thus see the law to be on our side.
