PETITION TO ADDRESS SEVERE DRAINAGE ISSUE AT MNANDI ENTRANCE, SOMERSET EAST
We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Somerset East, are writing to bring urgent attention to a severe drainage issue at the Mnandi entrance that has now been overflowing for more than two months.
The continuous overflow has led to:
Serious damage to the road surface, making it almost completely undrivable.
Vehicle damage, as drivers attempting to use the road face potholes, slippery surfaces, and water damage.
A strong, unpleasant drain smell that affects the health and wellbeing of residents living nearby—many of whom struggle to breathe due to the persistent stench.
This issue poses a significant public health risk, safety concern, and negatively impacts the daily lives of residents, local businesses, and commuters.
We, therefore, respectfully petition the local government to:
Urgently repair or unblock the drainage system at the Mnandi entrance.
Restore and resurface the damaged section of road affected by the overflow.
Implement long-term maintenance solutions to prevent future occurrences.
We urge the relevant departments to treat this as a matter of urgency and to communicate a clear timeline for when corrective action will be taken.
We, the undersigned, request immediate intervention.
