My home and office is in Parkhill Gardens. On a weekly basis we are without power for at least 3 to 4 days due to cable theft or damages to the substation. We are expected to pay our rates and taxes and electricity bill, but we dont have power for most of the month, every month. It is costing us thousands in fuel for generators both for home and the office. These are expenses that no one can afford in today's life.

This matter has been comming a time now , most substations as well as electrical boxes are left open and when you ask ekurhuleni energy guys for locks to lock boxes and substations standing open they say theres no locks , i personally bought some locks and lock boxes thats open then i write my adress on the box if they need to open the box. They also leave trenches open and if you notice trenches criminals dig and you request assistance with a machine you dont get assistance , theres also residents that climb up streetlight poles at night and switch themself on as boxes are standing open.

No action is taken. The same cables are constantly stolen. Substations are not properly secured and are constantly vandalized at astromical cost to the municipality and businesses in the area. The community is placed in vulnerable security situations when extended power outages occur. Crime increases exponentially. Medical patients depending on oxygen have their lives placed in jeopardy. Resolving security and aressting criminals would give residents relief from extended outages which in some cases run into weeks as opposed to days. A solution is desparatly needed to the security of cables to bring back some normality of life. Loadshedding just provides an open door to cable thieves. Proper security of cables is essential.
