We are now all one. The name is authentic to us Tangata W’enua!

Eugenia Luke (Te Hāwera, 2022-07-10)

I believe this to be so

Rebecca Symons (Nowra, 2022-07-10)

#4

Because I agree full heartedly

Corryn Luke (Hawera, 2022-07-11)

#15

I dont like the new name

Aulis Volk (Hawera, 2022-07-28)

#31

Bruce Fowlie (Patea , 2022-07-28)

#34

I went to hawera high school. I like the name, it's where it's from.

Thomas Boulton (Auckland, 2022-07-28)

#39

Name is fine as it is

Jason Kempton (Hawera, 2022-07-28)

#53

I think Hawera should be in the wording of the school

Jason Garvey (Christchurch , 2022-07-29)

#58

I think the new name is easier to remember/say but also it really suits given why the new school has come about - the intermediate burned down

Nikki Stupples (Hawera, 2022-07-29)

#66

I lived in Hawera and attended this school

Deane Baunton (Blenheim, 2022-07-29)

Even though new zealand has a maori heritage there is not a english veriation of the naming.
The English language is most commonly used in the moden world and will benefit the modern world. What is the point in training our kids in this language in society

Glenn Fendall (Hawera , 2022-07-29)

#81

To bigger change. Keep it simple

Ricki Neil (Hawera, 2022-07-29)

#90

The name of the School should remain as it was in the Town of Hawera- don’t understand and don’t know why it has to have a maori name.

Anne Kemp (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#96

It is getting ridiculous the need to fix something that isn't broken and that the vast majority of people in New Zealand

Mark Pierson (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

My Father and his brothers attended this school when it was still Hawera Technical. My brothers, my husband and my children all attended Hàwera High school as did a lot of close friends. Also as written above a lot of history goes into the name of our community high school . To change the name would in my oppinion take away alot of significance and meaning that is dear to many friends and whanau , as well as past and present students living locally or abroad.

Karen Linders (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#98

I went to this school in the 1970s and my mother went to this school in the 1940s and I don't believe that the name should change, we should respect our history not sweep it under the carpet.

Brian Wingate (Normanby , 2022-07-30)

#99

This name is not a representation of the Hawera community and the people of south Taranaki.

Adam Jones (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#102

Yes I can handle saying that.

Gregor Diane (Hawera , 2022-07-30)

#103

I'm signing this because I do not see the reason for a change of name for the school to a name that holds no meaning to the people of this district. Generations of a lot of different cultures have past through this school and the name Hawera High School links all of those generations to the school. I see no valid reason to remove the name Hawera. It is the only higher learning school of Hawera. Leave the name alone.

Heather Baylis (Hawera , 2022-07-30)

#106

I was born and raised in Hawera and attended Hawera High School in the 1970's. What benefit is it to anyone changing the name? Every person alive today has known it as Hawera High School.

Debbie Harper (Whakatane , 2022-07-30)

#107

I disagree vehemently the assigned name

Roy Baylis (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#110

Why have a name not many people understand?

Keith Pilcher (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#112

It’s on the site of Hawera High School. For all those who have been educated there, to take the name away takes away a piece of our history. Why change it? It’s just rubbing away history.

Renée McKay (Muriwai, 2022-07-30)

#116

I feel that the name is more reflective of our community and easier for all our respective nationalities to pronounce and understand.

Fiona Campbell (Hawera, 2022-07-30)

#122

I 100% agree. It has to have Hawera in it. For all to understand.

Melissa Stone (Stratford, 2022-07-30)

#124

The name announced has no association with Hawera what so ever and was thinking that the new name proposed, would be the new school name

Hannah Corrigan (Hawera, 2022-07-31)

#126

School is multi cultural so the name should reflect that. Its not just a Maori school

Sharon Woods (Whanganui , 2022-07-31)

#127

School name should align with local area it represents

Noel Baylis (Hawera, 2022-07-31)

#134

I want the name changed !!

Charmaine Walker (Hawera, 2022-07-31)

#135

The new name has no historic value to the town. However Hawera High School does. For the THOUSANDS of students and Teachers who have had their education based from this school it's an insult to OUR heritage
to change. Even though Integration of the Intermediate into the High School is happening there is no purpose to loose the name -they both had Hawera in their school names. New is not always better.

Joy Midgley (Pukekohe , 2022-08-01)

#138

I oppose the name change. in every way. Te Hawera is as it should be,

Diana McCallum (Hawera, 2022-08-01)

#140

It should include the name HAWERA

Marsha Riddick (Hawera , 2022-08-01)

#142

Hawera high has a 100 year history that should not be discarded without public consultation.

Michael Bublitz (Hawera, 2022-08-02)

#143

If we want the future generations to excell, we need to have consistency in our systems. Its a school and needs to continue to state that in english the most used language of this country not a minority langauge for feel good pc factors

Andre DeAth (Hawera, 2022-08-02)

#148

I have been raised in hawera and went to hawera high

Lisa Tangaroa (Hawera, 2022-08-04)

#153

I would like to see the town name in the school name

Williamson Michael (Hawera , 2022-08-04)

#154

I much prefer the name Te Hawera High School. With that name you know where the school is from.

Joyce White (Hawera. Taranaki. , 2022-08-04)

#165

The new name dosnt represent hawera at all and is very hard to pronounce. The Hawera High is so much better

Toni Cameron (Hawera, 2022-08-04)

#167

As an ex-pupil, the proposed name of "Te Paepae o Aotea", offers NO NAME CONNECTION for me to the school I grew in. People ask, whats in a name?, "Te Hawera High School" at least bends a little more in the Maori tradition while retaining it's original title that is now over 100 years old which is already a Maori traditional name for the town and district.
"Te Paepae o Aotea" would also force a complete change of school shield/ banners / documents and everything else that belongs to the 100 year old Hawera High School name.
This specific name change insult is made worse by using the current High school grounds and buildings.
(For the pedantic: Original, Hawera Technical High School to current, Hawera High School)

David Taylor (Hamilton, 2022-08-04)

#170

Truly believe the school should have our town in the name .

Katrina Jones (Normanby , 2022-08-04)

#171

I am an old boy of the school

John Maurice Death (Hua Hin , 2022-08-04)

#178

I object to the name because it does not relate to this area.

Lisa Phillips (Hawera, 2022-08-04)

#179

The high should be known as Te Hawera High School as the proposed new name gives no indication as to where it is

Aileen Kowal (Hawera , 2022-08-04)

#181

Because this is bullshit. The name doesn't need to be changed

Jennifer Stewart (Wellington , 2022-08-04)

#184

I'm signing because I am from Hawera and attended Hawera High School. I know the history and feel that it is very important. Te Hawera has much more significance.
Te Paepae are the name of rocks by White Island in Bay of Plenty. Nothing to do with Hawera. I feel that has no significance to Hawera.

Caroline Rayner (Paeroa, 2022-08-04)

#187

My mother was a pupil in the early 1900s, as were myself and my brother in the 1960s. I'd hate to lose the name we knew.

Valerie Kirk (New Plymouth, 2022-08-05)

#190

I'm an old boy of the school. I was also born in Te Hawera. The proposed name does not resonate with me or make me feel connected to my heritage.

Stephen Carruthers (Christchurch , 2022-08-05)

#191

The proposed name has no relevance or historical link to Hawera and will only lead to confusion of the schools identity & location.

Steve Latta (New Plymouth, 2022-08-05)

#194

School name does not reflect from wich town it's from. Hawera is already from Maori language anyway.

Llewellyn Farr (Hawera , 2022-08-05)

#195

Name is completely meaningless to Hawera.

John McGlinchey (Hawera, 2022-08-05)

#196

As an ex student I want to send my kids to the same school I attended to carry on the 90 odd years of history before me with the name Hawera High School. Without this there will be no sentimental value in the new school and I will be exploring other educational options for my children such as NPBHS & NPGHS.

Logan Quinnell (Hawera, 2022-08-05)

#198

As a former pupil and head boy I believe that the continuity of the name, its history and its traditions outweighs a politically correct aspiration for a name change.

Bruce Harper (Brisbane , 2022-08-06)

#200

I attended Hawera High School from 1969 till 1973, my parents both attended Hawera High School, the proposed new name shows no history of the school
