Parking Reform in Rotorua's CBD

Comments

#2

I watch how many people struggle with the machines just to pay the parking fee.
This is ludicrous.
People give up paying because they can’t use a machine and 99% of the time the machines are broken/faultt

Jules Hira-Batt (Rotorua , 2023-03-26)

#3

Im tierd of parking in parks and getting tickets straight away

Konnie Apiata (rotorua, 2023-03-26)

#4

Tired of meters are not working no enough coin operated unfair parking ticket

Ali Carkci (Rotorua, 2023-03-26)

#5

Meters are not working . while you are looking for working meters
unfair parking tickets

omur onan (rotorua, 2023-03-27)

#6

I am signing this petition because often times I have seen that the machines don't work or are difficult to work.
The rules seem to change as well and are not clearly defined. i.e parking for more than 3 hours in the same spot and paying for all of the time - but still getting a fine because the car hasn't moved parks - or moved sides of the street. I have had tickets for both - even though I have paid!

Tammy Austin (Rotorua, 2023-03-27)

#8

I support what my colleagues are wanting to achieve.

Sarah Tapsell (Rotorua, 2023-03-27)

#9

I don't own a debit card and would rather be able to pay with cash as it is more convenient. Getting stung most times with our work cars being in affected area

Herora Mohi (Rotorua, 2023-03-28)

#11

To change the parking system

Rebecca McDowell (Rotorua, 2023-03-28)

#12

I want better parking

Deanna Onan (Rotorua, 2023-03-28)

#13

Sick of parking meters not working and getting tickets

Cara Black (Rotorua, 2023-03-28)

#15

I work in the CBD and the current t system is frustrating and unreliable.

Corinne Retemeyer (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#23

I'm signing bcors I'm sick of walking up the Rd to find a bloody parking meter...and sick of getting there and no coins...then get charged double on EFTPOS..just wrong...

Nikki Wharerau (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#25

I wholeheartedly agree with the above comments. I work in Retail in the CBD and it’s such a huge issue.

Sandra Warren (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#26

I am tired of being issued penalties for parking in An ipark car park when you cannot pay at the end of the day due to the failing technology. But I cannot prove it so end up with paying $40 a, day.

Julie SMITH (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#27

I believe that it is the responsibility of IPARK's to ensure that all parking meters are functional. Customers should not be fined if they are unable to access a working machine. As a physically disabled woman, who is often not able to access disability parking (due to vicinity of the designated parks and due to able bodied people using them) I am not always able to walk around looking for a working machine and I am sure it is the same for others in my situation.

Gay McManus (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#29

I used my bankcard to pay for 50c 30min parking in town and what do you know, $1 was taken out 🤬

Merania Mihaka (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#31

The current pre-paid parking system we have is broken and requires fixing!

Jenn Kennedy (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#33

I agree with all of the sentiments expressed in the petition.

Sandra Goodwin (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#34

The parking in Rotorua needs to be free!! Taupō has and is thriving while Rotorua is dying!!

Kelly Duncan (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#35

Had issues with parking meters

Linda Birch (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#36

The metres either don’t work or are too confusing for a lot of people- they keep customers out of the CBD - businesses are struggling enough 😡

Paula Mellors (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#37

I agree with the petition

Claire Wilson (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#41

Ive unfairly been fined when machines have been out of order only to walk up the road to the next machine that also doesnt work.

Tinelle Sullings (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#42

Parking is confusing and not wardened very will

Glendyr Casey (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#43

It’sa complete shit show trying to park in the cbd at the moment

Peter Falwasser (Matata, 2023-03-29)

#46

I agree parking needs to be addressed it is effecting the cbd. Discouraging people to visit and makes it hard for business to get customers with the issues of the machines.

Karla Bourne (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#50

I’m signing this petition as I am a user of those annoying machines and had many tickets fir machines not working. I work in town where there is hardly any all day free parking for people working in town. Before these machines there was heaps of all day free parking

Tracey Bourke (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#52

The ipark system is a disgrace.

Chris Robinson (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#53

Sick and tired of parking meters being broken and getting tickets for that reason,, we need people to come to our cbd and not have to worry about parking tickets worry more about relaxing and enjoying what we have to offer

Renata Tako (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#54

The system is not maintained adequately

Christine Mutlow (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#58

I do not have time to walk around town trying to find a meter that works so I don't go into town any more

Bev Carlton (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#60

Im sick of the machines not accepting valid coins or certain letters dont work so you walk to a machine over the road omly to find that brocken too.

Michelle Fawcett (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#61

I agree with needing more free parking & that the machines are always down.

Aleshia Williams (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#62

I've hardly ever seen a parking machine working, every machine I try is never working so I stoped parking in town

Wendy Allen (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#64

I too have troubles with the machine and despite having valid prood of trying to pay have received tickets. When disputing, Ipark is not interested in knowing and will not reason. I am keen to see the parking supervised.

Danielle Thompson (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#65

I have endless issues with the parking meters, as mentioned above. Meters not working, so you walk to another meter and that doesn't work either. More often than not, when I try to pay for parking I have to help others who are struggling with the machine.

Jackie Lunam (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#66

I too have had issues with the payment process. If town's like taupo can run a free system why can't we.

Earle Sutcliffe (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#68

$370 a year it cost me just to use the machines. I own a shop on eruera street and pay rates. Coin machines never working. Broke my foot kicking it 3 weeks ago

Andy Black (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#70

It's so difficult to find parking in the centre and there used to be more free spaces, bad for tourism

Barb Ward (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#71

I agree that there are issues. Not enough that take cash as not everyone has a credit or debit card. I work in town and always have people asking how to use them.

Shirley Norton (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#74

I work in the CBD and this affects me often.

Elaina Leonard (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#75

Because I had problems with the stupid parking meters not working right!

David Ihaka (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#78

The parking machines are garbage and they make no sense! Not everyone uses credit or debit cards and when you can't pay cash cus that machine is broken and your being told to keep walking around looking for one that's bs.
More often than not they don't work.
I've been told by the helpline well that's not my problem you will probably get a ticket you need to keep walking around until you find a machine that's working I went to 2 different ones and both were broken. Makes it hard for people.with injury, disability, tourists and elderly

Shannen Lunam (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#79

I have been caught many times with machines not working then got fined

Andrew Church (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#80

Because the ipark meters are a joke
Parked opposite the police station yesterday to go to a friends graduation and the ipark meter wouldnt take my 50c $1 or $2 coins nor would it take my card i attemped several times with both and yes it was a card and coin meter
Ended up having to walk to different machines till i found one that worked
And was late into the graduation.

Sally Stewart (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#81

I'm sick of paying for parking

Maringi Whauwhau (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#83

We need a better option to support the few retailers that are left in the city

Gayle Gordon (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#84

I agree, the machines don't work. We want to encourage people.

Liz Sharp (Rotorua , 2023-03-29)

#85

Parking in Rotorua township is difficult, it puts me off coming into town. The pay machines are often broken.

Lisa Cliffe (Rotorua, 2023-03-29)

#88

Because i'm over trying to look for a machine tht operates properly.

Beverley Baker (Mamaku, 2023-03-29)

#91

Need change. Go back to coin operated parking meters and also offer some free carparks in the CBD

Taawhi Koria (Rotorua , 2023-03-30)

#92

I'm a hospitality worker. So half the time my wage goes to parking. Would be nice if they could discount worker in the cbd

Natika Matthews (Rotorua , 2023-03-30)

#94

Agree with everything that is wrong with iPark.

Martin Kroese (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#96

It’s an inflexible and expensive system. People would rather stay away from the cbd rather than wrestle with this hopeless system. Free parking in town, encourage and stimulate our broken city

Scott Hearn (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#99

Its not on when the machines break down and we hv to cross ova and serch for the other on.
and at times do drop offs and you get bck and you hv a 40 dollar fine. try to talk to the meter people. they say call the number and talk to them. must be a better way to do this grrrrr

lipi sinnott (rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#103

I closed my business due to the parking problems it cause not only for me and my staff but our clients. I believe all businesses should be allocated 2 parks outside there business of free parking to help bring business back to the cbd. I now currently work at fairysprings shopping lot which has free parking all day and every shop is leased.

Heidi Te Are (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#105

I work.in the cbd

Amanda Williams (Rotorua , 2023-03-30)

#106

Solutions we would like investigated are:
1. Limited free parking.
2. Better maintained payment infrastructure.
3. Supervision of iPARK's responsibilities to the community.
4. Removal of iPARK for being in breach of their contractual agreement.

Dawn Catton (Rotorua , 2023-03-30)

#107

The parking meters in the CBD are a joke. Have seen many people (young and old) either finding meters not working or faulty. This has been going on for years. Apparently the technicians come from Auckland as there is no one in Rotorua to maintain them. Our conditions in Rotorua are completely different. Most of them don't work most of the time.

Stephanie Wiseman (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#108

Its a water of money whn money is already scarce with everything else like petrol n food sky rocketing. Could buy some eggs with this money lol

Lynn Hohepa (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#110

Parking in town is a complete pain, hardly ever come into town anymore

Jennie Hodder (Rotorua, 2023-03-30)

#112

As a local business owner on the corner of Fenton and Pukuatua Streets, I and my customers are continually frustrated by the parking machines on Pukuatua Street. They are often out of order, they are difficult to use (especially for the elderly), they are not consistent - some coin, some only credit card and then if you are forced to use your credit card because there is no other option, Ipark has the check to charge you another 50c - nearly a 15% added charge when I know for a fact that the bank merchant fee to the company would be no more than 4%!!! When I have rung to report a broken machine the staff are nothing but rude and imply that I must be doing something wrong as apparently the technician has just fixed said machine - funny how I get the same answer every time I report a fault. I am then told to "go and find a machine that is working". I am afraid that I have more important things to do with my time and have had several reports and one experience myself where I went to THREE machines - none of which was working!!! This again is extremely difficult for the older driver who should not be expected to have to 'download the app" compromising their privacy and causing some angst. It is time to give I-Park the boot and to find another supplier that will actually deliver on their contract while at the same time allow at least 60 minutes FREE PARKING in the CBD as does so many progressive councils around the country eg Nelson City Council.

Prue des Forges (Rotorua, 2023-03-31)

#115

The parking situation is affecting my small business, extra fees for using the app, very frustrating when machines don't work and have 3 little kids with me.

Jacinda Roper (Rotorua, 2023-03-31)

#116

I have personal experience with the issue.
Issued a fine due to plate recognition not working.
Extremely poor customer service.

Rēnata Ward (Rotorua, 2023-03-31)

#119

I very rarely use the inner city because of the problems with paying for parking.

Amber Worth (Rotorua , 2023-03-31)

#121

My daughters uses my spare car for work. I think we spend more on tickets then we do on petrol. Get rid of them...bring back the old ones.

Rose Parsons (Rotorus, 2023-04-01)

#123

I have had tickets issued that were not my fault but have been denied when I have contacted them. The parking building being one that I paid but payment didn't show up until the next day. I was still given a $70 charge that I had to pay. People who just want to pop in to a shop shouldn't have to pay for a 15 minute park when there are free ones up the road but are full. There should be a 15 min option to register when the machines work that doesn't charge. Bring coin or cash back as an option aswell as eftpos at every machine so elderly can work them. Crossing the road to find one is ridiculous.

Brenda Reeves (Rotorua, 2023-04-01)

#126

Our parking should not be a business for someone to profit off of!!

Hamish Falconer (Rotorua, 2023-04-02)

#128

Every time I use them they are not working. It's frustrating I have to take a photo of the machine to irove I've tried and it fails to work so if I get a ticket I have evidence the machine didn't work. I personally think they should have left the old ones alone.
Now if the tree parking is not available I don't bother shopping in town.

Tania Bennett (Rotorua, 2023-04-02)

#129

I am signing because I agree with the above statements.
The parking system is extremely frustrating and poorly managed. I feel its only success is to generate revenue for the council, rather than create a fair parking system that supports businesses and consumers in the CBD.

Elaine Barrington (Rotorua, 2023-04-02)

#130

this is a major issue that needs sorting.

Charlotte Anderson (Rotorua, 2023-04-02)

#135

The payment system is often broken, and will NOT accept my payment. If and when I go to town, I try to avoid these parking spaces that require the iPARK payment system, because a lengthy walk is always quicker than trying to find another iPARK machine that works. Visiting town is no longer at my convenience and requires more time away from my job during work time, therefore lessening the time I can utilise for shopping and other errands within the CBD.

Andrew Francis (Rotorua, 2023-04-02)

#137

Clients are terribly inconvenienced by broken machines and limited time zones.

Laurel Bach (Rotorua , 2023-04-03)

#138

Not enough limited parking , meters not working . Actually prevents me shopping and visiting cafes in the centre centre due to having to pay . It’s just a joke .

Lisa Crowe (Rotorua, 2023-04-03)

#140

We shouldn’t have to pay to park while we are at work or already spending money at local businesses

Angela McHardy (Rotorua , 2023-04-03)

#141

The current parking system in Rotorua is putting people off coming into the city and making the trip in off putting. We should have a free parking system for our elderly and disabled, family and visitors also proper designated free parking for the people who travel and work in the city.

Muiread Douglas (Rotorua , 2023-04-03)

#142

The ******* machines never ever work for me!

Peter Franz (Pukehangi, 2023-04-04)

#144

I believe that free parking the CBD would bring clients back into the city where they are currently charged and penalised for parking in the city. Often the ipark machines are out of order and they are confusing to use for our local elderly people let alone tourists. I am often assisting people with how to use the machines or when payment isn’t required.

Carey Bryant (Rotorua , 2023-04-04)

#147

Needs to be sorted as absolute joke and Council take no ownership as have out sourced it for a price

Graeme Hill (Rotorua, 2023-04-05)

#148

I park is a scam system and is stoping businesses making a profit

Brittany Cook (Kawerau, 2023-04-05)

#149

Sick and tired of parking meter 2008 always breaking down

Vaughn Taylor (Rotorua, 2023-04-06)

#151

I visited Rotorua as a tourist and really enjoyed the place. However, as a tourist, I didn't understand the parking system and as a result, I got a ticket for parking at the wrong place. As a tourist, figuring out how to pay for parking would be the last thing on my list. I hope there's a better system in place the next time I visit. Thanks.

Koon Yee Cheok (Penang, 2023-04-06)

#152

The parking is a pain, with meters very often not working and if they start working once you have left the car - you get fined !!!!!

Emma Green (Rotorua, 2023-04-06)

#153

Machines are always broken and the only way to sort them out is to ring a 09 number. If machines are broken it should be free to call for advice. Also the charges are so high I used to pay $20 per week for parking in the carport building and now it's double that per week. Daylight robbery. Ridiculous for parking on the second floor.

Natasha Cooper (Rotorua, 2023-04-06)

#156

The iPark contract has destroyed dozens of businesses in the CBD and costed numerous families their livelihoods.

It is pretty safe to say that iPark has successfully sabotaged the local economy of the Rotorua District.

Jason Diprose (Rotorua , 2023-04-08)

#158

I’m sick of getting parking tickets.. I don’t know if they work on commission tickets as many cars and get paid more because that’s what it feels like..5mins parked and they already watching and waiting to ticket me

Bianca Kemen (Rotorua, 2023-04-08)

#160

I am signing because I work in rotarua town and I can’t afford to always pay my tickets that I get due to the none working machines. It’s unfair and not right

Auri Kamo (Rotarua , 2023-04-08)

#161

The cost of parking & tickets is ridiculous, I’m paying parking to go to work & being fined when I can’t move. The only other option is to park blocks away but I finish after dark and I feel incredibly unsafe walking to my car. It’s ridiculous.

Alyssa Goucher-King (Rotorua, 2023-04-08)

#162

I intentionally always shop at small businesses to support them. Paid parking makes this unaffordable

Georgia Magyar (Waihi, 2023-04-09)

#165

We never asked for this system to begin with.
It's all.about revenue gathering which fact is proven as 90% of the revenue goes to a COMPANY, not the council!

The CBD is empty with many shops up for lease/sale because people go elsewhere
Mainly the mall in which the, previous council and especially the mayor had an interest.

It's failing, DAILY and it doesn't make sense.

It was FORCED upon the people, despite many protests once we did find out.

Remko Schipper (MAmaku, 2023-04-09)

#166

The parking a rip off

David Diprose (3020, 2023-04-09)

#172

I am in Rotorua every week and mostly ppark in the CBD. Paying for parking has been a bloody nightmare. I don't carry a credit card and refuse to have a debit plus card after scammers accessed my last one. I've been stuck in the upstairs car park due to pay machine not working. I could go on. Its no wonder shoppers stay out of the CBD

Dawn Lunam (Kawerau , 2023-04-09)

#173

These machines rip you off all the extra fees especially when you have to use your card to pay

Erena Puku (Rotorua, 2023-04-10)

#174

Everytime I go to use the parking machines they are always faulty. They take for ever and I always see our elderly struggling with this stupid machines, why can't we just jave our old coin system back.

Asim Cihan (Rotorua , 2023-04-10)

#175

I am a tourist in Rotorua and I experience the issue above, so I am happy to support that.

Nikola Musilova (Rakovnik, 2023-04-11)

#176

Took too long

TeWhetu Dewes (Rotorua, 2023-04-12)

#177

I attempted payment but it would not work. I rang the help desk but Instead they asked me to cross the street at a dangerous time in the rain to try another machine. This is unfair on local businesses who will lose customers who don’t want to deal with this bad parking system.

Jesse Archer (Tauranga, 2023-04-12)

#181

I too have experienced the failing I park system and have been fined

Mark Dobson (Rotorua, 2023-04-12)

#183

Because I 100% agree with this petition and have constant issues with the “out of order” terminals resulting in lots of unfair parking fines that cannot be rebuked!

Stella Schuster (Rotorua, 2023-04-13)

#186

I'm a local business owner in the CBD, we have constant people being locals and visitors asking about how the parking system works. The machines always seem broken and out of order. The sensors that time cars parking apparently don't work anymore allowing cars to be parked for long periods of time with no tickets. At least we have more parking on Hinemoa st snice the removal of the cycle lane, the cbd needs to be more inviting and easy to understand for parking to draw people in

Sam Casey (Rotorua, 2023-04-13)

#187

I'm sick of waisting my time to look for a working machine.

Richard Morrison (Rotorua, 2023-04-13)

#188

The machine is always broken . We work on Fenton St and it's often hoha !! Either coin or card is always broken. Not good getting tickets when there is no way to pay. The app has often not accepted my card as well. Honestly, really fed up !

Lynnelle Riritahi (Rotorua, 2023-04-14)

#191

Parking shoul not be difficult fix the damm machines

Rusty McLeod (Rotorua, 2023-04-15)

#192

Parking in Rotorua is rubbish, especially since the machines almost always don’t work or only take card.

Jeremy Doorman (Rotorua, 2023-04-15)

#193

The petition is right

Hirena Swinton (Rotorua , 2023-04-16)

#194

The meter did not take coins and my cards don’t work here

Gerard Gerstner-Stevens (Derrimut, 2023-04-16)

#198

The current parking system is obviously not fit for purpose with its faults and lack of support from operators.
I do not recall the council asking for their rate payers opinion feedback before changing to the current system. If they did, it wasn't a very public announcement so as to not allow everyone an informed consent on the matter to be able to have their say which is typical of a council when it comes to public opinion.
