Keep the O'Neill's Road Pedestrian Level Rail Crossing Open!

Comments

I want to keep the current safest walking route to school open for my three young children who walk that route every day of the week.

Candice de Villiers (Swanson, 2023-04-29)

#2

This is the safest place close by that we can cross the train lines. We overlook the crossing and therefore we KNOW that is used by the community, hourly, every day. Make it safer if you want by all means but do not remove it.

Kerri Beuth (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#4

I use this crossing almost daily at least once. I have kids with prams bikes etc. when the never ending elevator breaks for weeks or months on end it is impossible to let the kids enjoy a walk to school. Could O’Neils road not be open and connected creating a safe walking space as well as giving alternative routes for vehicles. Also given the huge development that is currently being built there is only going to be more congestion in the area.

Amy Williams (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#5

I use this crossing to walk my child to school. The alternative road is very busy one sided footpath with a busy roundabout. This route is the safest route to school

Chantel Fredericks (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#6

I use this crossing at least 3 times a week

Nadia Ducrot (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#8

The O'Neill's Road Pedestrian Level Rail Crossing is a valuable asset to the Swanson/Ranui community, providing a safe thoroughfare for those with prams, bikes, scooters, and even the average jogger or evening stroller. Removing it will make navigating around the area more challenging for many households. It is arguably as safe as the Pooks Road Pedestrian Level Rail Crossing, due to both not having an automated gate which shuts when trains approach, and that rail crossing is currently not in the potential firing line for removal. Keep the crossing, and if safety concerns are being used to justify its removal, then improve safety measures rather than further limiting the accessibility of the suburb.

Samantha Santayana (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#9

I walk my grandchildren to school and daycare and if this is closed then I will be driving a car so more road traffic.

Barbara Murphy (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#11

We use this walkway multiple times a week to walk to/from daycare and into Swanson township

Teryll Irvine (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#12

The kids in our street use this crossing walking to and from Swanson School. 6 years old through to 11 years old.

W Brett Heald (Ranui, Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#13

I'm signing because I used this crossing every single day without fail. Walking my baby in her pram, running, or going to the RSA at weekends. We will also use this when our baby starts daycare at Pineapples as it is super convenient. The alternative options are lengthy and the crossing down by the roundabout at Pooks Road makes me feel extremely unsafe...people drive so fast and as a woman I would not feel safe walking there alone at night as it is poorly lit.

It seems like the decision to close the crossing has been made with complete disregard for the community that use it.

Kate Sheridan (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#15

We use this crossing and consider it perfectly safe

Robenanne Lucas (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#16

We use this crossing all the time
And will be very sad to see it go.

Jess Kern (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#17

It affects my family

Bronwyn Lucas (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#20

I want the O'Neills road train pedestrian crossing to remain operational for our community. It is a regularly used thoroughfare for walkers making our local community accessible by foot/bike/pram/scooter/wheelchair.

Nicky Watkin (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#22

just make sure it is safe for everyone

marlene dakanay (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#24

Because it’s Important that our children and community deserve to have easy access to move around our community for schooling and public transport purposes ect

Tessa Kelly (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#25

This crossing is not dangerous and offers convenience to the residents in the area

James Hunt (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#26

I use the crossing almost daily when walking my dog.

Aida Trejo (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#27

I use this crossing regularly and will use it even more once my daughter is going to day care.

Peter van Loon (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#30

I feel that the train crossing at O’Neills Road is a very important thoroughfare for the community, which is consistently growing.

Leah Stewart (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#31

I use the crossing almost every day. It provides access to a walk that I enjoy greatly, which I would be unable to complete within a lunch hour if this crossing were to close. The crossing is completely safe and is safer than the alternative crossings suggested. There is no reasonable reason at all for AT to confiscate this important community facility.

Harvey Kane (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#32

This is the closest and safest way to cross the tracks for many in the new developments. The crossing has fantastic visibility and is a lot less dangerous than the underbridge by the roundabout, which requires crossing three busy roads to navigate, and adds considerable distance to access key community spaces. Removing it would destroy accessibility and reduce the walk ability of Swanson.

Holly Franklin (Swanson, 2023-04-29)

#33

closure of the crossing would divide the community, inconvenience pedestrians, and increase the use of vehicles to travel around it, adding to congestion and carbon emissions.
I urge AT and Kiwirail to consider the community's needs alongside their own, and consider installing a box culvert underpass for maximum safe separation of rail and pedestrians, (could be done during the proposed foundation works closures), or at least a gated crossing.

roger evans (auckland, 2023-04-29)

#34

This crossing connects the two main areas of Swanson and is a popular walking route for many. The crossing has good visibility in each direction and is safer than the roads

Michelle Hazeldine (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#35

My children use the o Niels pedestrian as it’s safer than walking the main road

Nazarene Morehu (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#36

There is no good reason to close it. Some good people use it every day.

Richard Beaton (Feilding, 2023-04-29)

#37

This is a quick, easy and safer access for people to travel between the south side of the tracks and the north side, that doesn't involve backtracking and crossing multiple busy roads.

Leigh Allanson-Evans (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#38

I am a local resident and use this crossing regularly

Abraham K (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#39

I want my neighbours to have the same safe route to Swanson School everyday,

Carla Arganosa (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#40

It's convenient for me to walk through this path to pineapple care and swanson school. I don't drive and walk so can't think of any other for walking other than this way.

sowmya Velicherla (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#41

I use this crossing

Rebecca Fox (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#42

It is an essential arterial access route for the community to get to school, daycare and other facilities. It is also the safest and most accessible crossing for anyone off the south side. Often the lifts are closed at the train station forcing people to use this crossing vs going a very long route. In bad weather conditions its use is increased vs the alternative. Walking wise it’s and extra 10-20min to get to the same location while also have to cross over several roads.

James Irvine (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#44

This impacts my daily life and that of so many of my neighbours. Closure will make life more difficult for so many families.
It doesn’t make sense to close a crossing that has never had any safety concerns. If AT are worried about safety now or in the future they could easily install automatic gates like there are at other pedestrian rail crossings.

Melanie Khan (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#47

I want to keep my loved ones safe.

Honora Griffin (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#48

I walk this route every day to and from school, dropping off and picking up my child from school (meaning I personally cross it 4 times a day).

Mae Hensman (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#50

I use the crossing most days , it’s also a very important link to connect the villagers
The crossing is safe for all to use it could be safer.
I don’t not want to see this crossing close once the vines has established there will be more people using the crossing

Anne Holmes (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#51

I use this crossing on a walking loop via the subdivision around to Swanson village and back. I cross with a stroller. It is vital that this remains open.

Katherine Russell (Swanson, 2023-04-29)

#52

I’m local and use the crossing a lot

Rebecca Roberts (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#53

I use this crossing most days as part of exercise

Tanya Burns (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#54

We live nearby and use this route every day for school drop off and also commuting via bicycle to work. The alternative routes are not only longer and more inconvenient but are far less safe for our kids. We hope to keep it open or have a safer option.

James Fleet (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#58

It is a crossing that is about to be the connection between 2 subdivisions and it would be foolish to take that away and encourage people to risk walking across the tracks instead I have used that crossing all my life and there isn't a day where that crossing doesn't get used without that crossing there it would become a very unsafe place

Lucas Loos (Swanson, 2023-04-29)

#59

Strongly support the crossing to remain.

Otto Le Roux (Swanson, 2023-04-29)

#60

I live in Swanson and agree that this is beneficial to the community.

Shirley Ray (Shirley Ray , 2023-04-29)

#62

I am supporting those Swanson residents who use this crossing as it is safer than the proposed alternatives and provides an efficient pedestrian community link.

Marie Kane (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#63

I have family living in this area and often walk around there. There is ample visibility and is very safe. Why relocate to an area which will create more crossings hence making it less safe. Seems to me AT are once again wasting money that would be better utilised elsewhere.

Alison Toia (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#64

The crossing is an important bridge between two sides of a community divided by a railway line.

Enzo Giordani (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#66

This shouldnt close and if anything open back up being able to drive through this crossing as well

Julia Moulden (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#67

I use this crossing to walk my grandsons to school.

Wendy Thomson (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#68

This crossing needs to stay open!

Rena Norton (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#69

I would like this crossing to stay open as it’s the safest route for me to walk my children to school.

Garrity Sacha (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#71

I live in the area, many people use this crossing every day

Tracey Turner (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#73

The country is trying to encourage excercise, stopping people walking is contrary to this, not being able to walk to schools and businesses will increase traffic and road congestion, not everyone uses the train

Alison Dicks (Ranui , 2023-04-29)

#74

I use the crossing regularly. It’s very convenient allowing access to Swanson road, especially getting to the RSA without driving.

Winiata Kaaka (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#75

I live in the area and use it regularly

Nikki Waite (Swanson , 2023-04-29)

#76

It is great access when exercising, getting to school and shops . Easy access to get to cemetery from Swanson Rd if walking

Robyn Cameron (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#80

The closure of this crossing is a safety concern.

Sarah Willerton (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#81

This is a very in-use local pathway for the residents of Swanson whether it’s crossing for daycare, school, going to the shops and establishments, walking/running, walking the dog, etc. Closing this will make it harder for residents to go to the other side. I agree with the other signers of this petition that a barrier arm, like in other areas, is sufficient for safety.

Murphy Mallare (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#82

I'm signing because I use this pedestrian crossing regularly. I started walking to lose weight and improve my mental health and O'Neills is part of the route I walk daily

Kerry Mesarich (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#83

It's not a environmentally sustainable decision neither it is communally.

Wei Wray (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#84

I agree that the O'Neills Road pedestrian level rail crossing should remain open because its location affords the safest method for people to cross the tracks to access community facilities, the school and the many nearby dwellings. This crossing contributes to reduced vehicle emissions by promoting safe walking. It also contributes to people's health by making the walking option reassuringly safer. Maintaining our people's health is vital in such times as these, when hospitals and health care services are overwhelmed by demand and short staffing.
The above reasons for keeping the O'Neills Road pedestrian level rail crossing open and maintained is a matter of health and safety - and hence the wellbeing of the currently expanding local community of Swanson.

Hilary Lovelace (Swanson, Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#85

I’m local and the closure will negatively impact our weekly life

Catherine Miller (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#86

I live locally and use this crossing often.

Stephen Fleet (Auckland, 2023-04-29)

#87

I live in Swanson and walk through this area

Gina Giordani (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#88

Making it harder and more dangerous for kids to walk to school is such a joke. Will cause far more traffic

Amy Williams (Auckland , 2023-04-29)

#90

I'm a local resident in the Penihana part of Swanson, a regular user of the crossing and I believe we should be looking to make the crossing safer for school kids, elderly and others to access the Swanson shops and cafes, and the RSA, on the flattest route possible for parents with prams and anyone in a wheelchair.

I also believe we should be encouraging more people to walk, for exercise and to reduce our carbon footprint, and not drive so making the crossing safer, with pedestrian gates is even more important.

Closing the crossing adds extra time to a walk and also increases risk as North Candia Rd is busy with many trucking businesses, and it means children having to cross roads to get to school.

Jane Treadwell-Hoye (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#92

It affects family

Bex Punter (Moranbah , 2023-04-30)

#94

I’m signing because my children use this track to get to school in the morning

Evania Moore-Rapana (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#95

We use this crossing to take our 5 year old to Swanson School as itbis the safest route

Brian Moore (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#100

The lifts at the Swanson train station are so frequently out of service that the O’Neill’s road crossing is essential for those for whom the stairs are unsuitable; bikes, prams, wheelchairs and the elderly.

Jenna Evans (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#102

Essential for community safety before and after school, events at the RSA.

Cal Marsh (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#103

Am a local resident and use it often

Vishal Koshy (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#105

It provides, in my opinion, safer access to our local RSA from the Fletchers subdivision.
Due to the increasing urbanization of the area with new housing it is a necessary access point for children walking to Swanson school for those who live at that end of the subdivision

Kevin England (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#111

I live locally and support the cause.

Chittaranjan Ancha (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#114

I want our kids/families to be safe around the Swanson area

Lopa Soliola (Waitakere , 2023-04-30)

#116

My whānau use this crossing almost daily as out walking route, which without the crossing would take twice as long. The longer path is less safe as it has much more traffic for my kids to navigate around.

Melissa Stewart (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#117

I am a regular user of the crossing with my kids.

Rajan Hira (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#120

I use this crossing frequently

Vivien Adam (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#122

The crossing is beneficial to parents and children of swanson school where my son attends

De’Ana Pike (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#123

I use this crossing every day when l go for my evening walk and without this crossing it's not safe to use all my normal walking route.

Tracey Strickett (Waitakere Township, 2023-04-30)

#124

We currently use this crossing to access to/from Pineapples daycare several times a week; and would like to continue to do this and be able to use it to walk to school in the future.

The other two alternative routes involve crossing busy roads, and are both around three times the distance to Pineapples so it would not be viable to walk and we would be forced to drive to daycare if this crossing closes.

Megan Ebsworth (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#126

It is important to me

Thea Manuel (Swanson, 2023-04-30)

#127

I live in the area and personally use this crossing as do alot of other family's

Lisa James (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#128

The crossing does not historically represent a material safety risk. It is a useful thoroughfare and deciding to close it is a reflection of how out of touch the authorities are with the community.

Brian Garrity (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#131

I have used this crossing multiple times and it would be dumb to close it. People are encouraged to walk or bike these days for keeping healthy and then stuff like this is happening. Just stop and listen to locals. Please keep this crossing. Or put ped bridge in first and then shut it.

Marc Lavers (Waitakere, 2023-04-30)

#132

I walk from that way 5 times a day.

Maninder Singh Kang (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#133

As a family we use this crossing to get from Candia Road to Swanson Road (walking, riding, jogging).

Rae Stairmand (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#135

I want it to stay

Liam Pattinson (Auckland , 2023-04-30)

#136

I am signing because I lived on O’Niels Rd for 16 years and my children crossed this line every day without any danger or accidents occurring.

Robyn Melles (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#137

Access should not be denied to pedestrians unless an alternative can be found in the same area.

Belinda Coles (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#140

It is essential link. Young n old need a safe crossing…. It used to be road access until 20 years ago. I know 2 young boys who were killed by trains at Ranui crossing.

Linda Aitken (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#141

With no walking path along Pooks Road and North Candia Road (both busy roads) this is currently the safest and most easily accessible way to Swanson Road.

Praneel Hira (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#142

The alternative routes / crossings at the railway station and North Candia Road present road traffic hazards that are greater than those posed by the crossing if some safety enhancements are made at the crossing e.g. automatic gates.

Graham Petrie (Auckland, 2023-04-30)

#146

a) It is currently the safest walking route for children and their families on the south side of the tracks who attend Swanson School and Pineapples Daycare. (And could be made even safer with improvements to the crossing)

b) It encourages people to walk to local Swanson events and keeps us connected to one another. Having the ability to use this crossing on foot, reduces vehicle congestion and emissions in our community.

Emily Colbert (Huapai, 2023-05-01)

#148

I don't want the crossing removed

Bruce Norton (Auckland, 2023-05-01)

#149

I’d like to continue using O’neill’s Road to access the south side of the village. If the crossing must be closed I believe AT should provide a separated access in this location that’s suitable for wheel chairs, bikes and pushchairs. I would like to see safer at grade options for people to continue using this access way.

Hayley King (Auckland , 2023-05-01)

#150

AT’s main concern as outlined in the PBCs and CRL business case is that too many level crossings slow down the road network. In this case there is no road crossing so the pedestrian crossing should remain AND be upgraded with safety gates like at Avondale.

Nick Reid (Auckland, 2023-05-01)

#151

We need more crossings between Pooks Rd and Swanson Rd as Ranui get's too congested and busy for pedestrians.

Emma Frost (Auckland, 2023-05-01)

#152

I am a pensioner and this is the quickest, safest route home for me.

Cliff Tolley (Auckland , 2023-05-01)

#153

Safer to keep it open

Richard Burn (Waitakere , 2023-05-01)

#156

I believe this crossing is integral to our community. It’s a back up access when the lifts aren’t working at the station (which happens very often) for people with prams etc. Also part of a well loved walk route.

Shan Mei Chan (Auckland , 2023-05-01)

#157

It make sense to keep this access for pedestrians

Wendy Skelley (Auckland , 2023-05-01)

#161

The current crossing is the only safe way for pedestrians to get from subdevelopments around O'Neils road towards Swanson school , kindy and shops. Walking towards the other crossings means an unrealistic detour and will push more people into cars to drop off their kids.
Also, the current O'Neils crossing will connect to a new footpath currently being build within the new subdevelopment along Swanson road. That will give an even better connection to school and shops.
With new housing developments currently being build demand for this crossing wil rise further in the near future.

Anko Hanse (Swanson, Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#163

It is a safe place to walk to the school, petrol station and prep school

Sarah Haskell (Swanson, 2023-05-02)

#165

We use this multiple time a day to get to and from daycare, walking the dog and will do the same during school years. The crossing is safe and not obstructed

Kirsty Sowerby (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#166

The non inclusion of people with disabilities when life is already pretty hard, shouldn’t more crossings be put in?

Ashleigh Danby (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#168

AT doesn’t care about inclusiveness towards people with disabilities - taking away crossing platform and access continues to make life hard for those with disabilities

Jennie Danby (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#169

This will cause major traffic elsewhere and inconvenience a lot of people. If it doesnt need to be changed then why change it

Tayler Alexander (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#170

I use this crossing to get to my children's school and preschool. This would make my morning routine and getting to my children alot harder

Olivia Heaven (Swanson, 2023-05-02)

#171

The pedestrian crossing allows local residents to get to Swanson by foot. If it were to close they would require the use of a vehicle to travel the longer alternate route.

Rhonda Jordan (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#172

I believe they need to keep this open as with all the extra housing going in will cause major traffic congestion

Oliver Jordan (Auckland , 2023-05-02)

#175

It would push many more people into cars rather than walking

Ken Jordan (Auckland , 2023-05-02)

#176

I use this most days and would be very inconvenient to work around meaning I’ll likely drive instead of excercising

Daniel Sowerby (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#177

It would be a major inconvenience for our family if the crossing is closed as we live in the Fletcher development and have two children currently attending Pineapples and a third on the way.

Henry Khov (Swanson, 2023-05-02)

#178

I am a local that uses this crossing frequently. It makes no sense to cut off a whole community from Swanson's arterial road.

Hannah Khov (Swanson, 2023-05-02)

#180

As a full time wheelchair and a local Swanson resident, this level crossing is crucial in providing inclusive access to everyone especially when the one or other of the lifts at Swanson Station are out of order. This happens a lot and drives some of us to distraction.

Sharon Davies (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#182

We use this crossing regularly!

Annabel Marshall (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#183

This is the best access way for families walking to and from Pineapples daycare and Swanson Primary school. If they have to walk around that will add extra time to these families day or be too far for some children to walk. It is used often.

Tash Gedye (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#185

This pedestrian crossing is very much in use by a lot of people in this community and appreciate if they could upgrade this with automated safety gates rather than getting rid of it.

Sri Velicherla (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#187

Auckland Transport shows itself to make decisions affecting local communities with such poor consultation that it seems to think it knows better. AT does not live in my locality therefore could they kindly butt out and listen to our community.
I frequently use this crossing to access the Doctor and the Chemist. In fact I thought AT are encouraging people to leave their vehicles behind and walk and cycle more. Closing this crossing will only force families to drive to their local shops.

Sandra Breckon (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#188

O'Neill's road is normally my most convenient crossing point, when I walking or cycling

Bryan Pulham (Auckland, 2023-05-02)

#191

I live local and am concerned about safety in our comunity

Janice Lorigan (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#192

This crossing is very much needed in our neighbourhood.
Many families use this crossing to walk children to Pineapples Early Learning Centre and Swanson School and say by far it is the safest route for those with bikes, scooters, prams, and dogs in tow, and not to forget our full time wheelchair users. This level crossing is crucial in providing inclusive access especially when one of the lifts at Swanson Station are out of order, which happens regularly.

Tami Hin (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#194

For the kids and parents going to kindy.

Erin O'Connell (Auckland , 2023-05-03)

#199

I am concerned about the safety of children. If the crossing is closed, they will have to either walk on the side with no footpath or if they walk on the footpath they would need to cross the road at a very busy roundabout. It would also ad a considerable distance for people who have mobility difficulties or visual impairment. It will be putting people at risk. The current crossing has barriers and alarm bells to warn of approaching trains, it is a good option.
