School Zone Signage and Speed Reduction for Ngunguru Primary School

Comments

I've seen how the school zone at Glenbervie School is much bigger than the one at Ngunguru School, and that an extension here is justified.

Steve Marshall (Whangarei, 2023-08-27)

I have two kids at this school and more safety procedures can only do good.

Sarah Brown (Whangarei, 2023-08-27)

#6

These changes need to happen for the safety of our tamariki.
There has been many times where motorists have exceeded the speed limit directly passed my children and myself walking to school. I would hate for any child to lose their balance on their bike and fall into the path off a speeding vehicle.

Sarah Message (Whangarei, 2023-08-27)

#7

My child walks to school regularly and drivers on Ngunguru rd are often not even aware that they are passing through a school zone. They drive way too fast and the kids are left to manage their own safety, which is unacceptable.

Amber Fayerberg (Ngunguru, 2023-08-28)

#8

I am concerned in regard to the dangers posed to the tamariki attending Ngunguru School while walking to and from school

#14

It is a proven fact that slower speeds reduce the severity of injury exponential. Children are also a particularly high risk group.

My child attends this school and I feel vehicle speed is an issue here

Yani O'Connell-Marwick (Ngunguru, 2023-08-28)

#18

My children and I walk this road twice a day. It can be very scary at the point where the pull-over kerbless point blends into the footpath. This point is right as vehicles are coming off a downhill corner, with no safety barrier. It is the perfect conditions for a car to drift out and over onto the footpath - into pedestrians. It is only a matter of time before someone is hurt.

Tirikawa Dickson (Matapouri, 2023-08-28)

#28

My kids attend the school, and I want them, and all their school mates to be safe.
The walkway beside the road is very narrow (no grass verge) and a slower speed would make it safer for all kids walking to school.

Carly Low (Tutukaka, 2023-08-28)

#29

Traffic is driving through Ngunguru too fast for the safety of adults and children who have to cross the road. Also past the shops the road is restricted with parked vehicles. Car door opening is an issue. After seeing a door knocked off I call it "Break a door alley"

Hilton Ward (Ngunguru, 2023-08-28)

#32

My grandchildren attend the school.

Celia Barrell (Whangarei, 2023-08-28)

#34

Too many close calls have happened, and with a new housing development the traffic will only increase! Keep our Tamariki safe!

Charlotte McAulay (Ngunguru , 2023-08-28)

#35

I support better signage so drivers are aware of the school zone, and reduced speed to improve safety for all.

Tanya Mortensen (Whangarei, 2023-08-28)

#37

I live here and see near misses everyday. The kids are oblivious to the cars and many cars are speeding in a rush to get somewhere. The whole road from school to the dairy needs looking at especially by the boat ramp, its really dangerous

Raewyn Tipene (Whangarei, 2023-08-28)

I have children in the town and it makes sense that this should have been done years ago

#54

My children walk this path and it is a constant source of worry for me knowing how fast some people drive this stretch of road

Tia Lord (Whangarei, 2023-08-29)

#58

I am signing, because although we have a traffic calming crossing on Ngunguru Road (adjacent to Shoebridge Crescent) Cars frequently over speed down the hill from Tutukaka. I have witnessed cars drive on to the footpath. More forceful signage highlighting school students are in the area and cars must slow down to cater for them is required

Karen Mein (Ngunguru, 2023-08-30)

#59

My grandchildren use this road and I fear for their safety and that of all the children in the area!!

Traffic safety around this school is lacking and 300 children attend this school, need a lot more road safety. Council responsibility

Jodie Collinson (Whangarei , 2023-09-03)

#71

This will keep our tamariki safe

Te Ara Armstrong (Ngunguru , 2023-09-03)

#74

My son attends Ngunguru School. We drive him there each morning and I have witnessed the speed at which people transition through this area as children navigate road crossing safely. I believe reminding motorists of the school zone during the pre and after school hour may help them remember to slow down and effectively reduce the risk of injury in this high risk area.

Paula Devanney (Tutukaka, 2023-09-04)

#76

This is the only option,to and from school for so many of our tamariki. The lowering of the speed limit makes drivers aware and supports safety in our community. Ngunguru Road is seeing more and more traffic with the area becoming more populated. It is necessary, in my view., that we have a reduced speed limit and signage. Other schools have it, ours should too.

Rachel Wellington (Tūtūkākā, 2023-09-08)

#78

I have had two near misses near Ngunguru School and believe that a lower speed limit on Ngunguru Rd would help protect children

I am the ward district councillor for this area and have been trying to push for faster progress on speed reviews, particularly around Ngunguru school and the intersection of Matapouri and Te Maika roads. I support urgent action to reduce the risk of someone being hurt.

Scott McKenzie (Whangarei , 2023-09-14)

#88

He kaupapa oranga tamariki mokopuna tenei. I support the safety and wellbeing of our children particularly in this area where children regularly highly populate due to proximity of school, beach, home, whanau, family, transport, pickups, dropoffs for cultural, commercial and recreational activities.

Aorangi Kawiti (Whangarei , 2023-09-16)

Nedi Tuigamala (Whangarei, 2023-09-18)

I have lived in the close vicinity of this area and have made complaints many times of the speed of vehicles coming down the hill. These are our moko, they should not be in any danger from road users, life is difficult enough as it is.

#94

Keeping our children safe is priority

Kathryn Bernsee (Whangarei, 2023-09-18)

I'm signing because the safety of our tamariki in our community is most important. The speed some vehicles travel is beyond rediculous with no care or consideration for others.

People drive too fast

Linda Barrie (Ngunguru , 2023-09-23)

#116

This is my community and I often see the speed of unaware drivers in this zone near the school. If you are driving through Ngunguru towards Tutukaka, the speed is 100km as you leave the village right next to the school turn. Vechicles race theough and up/down the hill in the 100km zone. Not slowing down anywhere near close enough before you reach the school turn. We have to take care of the safety of the tamariki going to and from school. Ngunguru school is only growing in numbers and more traffic. Cars need clearer signage to alert them of the risks here. Kind regards, Amie Connor
