Stop the Supreme Court’s Cruel Order to Remove Dogs from Institutions!

The Supreme Court of India has issued a shocking directive to remove all dogs—strays and pets alike—from schools, colleges, hospitals, offices, and public institutions across the country. This blanket order ignores the vital role these animals play in our communities and threatens the lives of countless innocent dogs.

For years, campus dogs have been beloved companions, providing emotional support to students, guarding premises naturally, and even helping control rodent populations. Many are vaccinated, sterilized, and cared for by compassionate staff and students under ABC (Animal Birth Control) programs. Evicting them means exposing them to starvation, accidents, abuse, or euthanasia—cruel outcomes for beings who’ve done nothing wrong.

This ruling disregards:

Animal Welfare Laws: The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and ABC Rules prioritize humane management over mass removal.

Scientific Evidence: Studies show community dogs reduce stress, enhance security, and coexist peacefully when managed properly.

Public Sentiment: Millions of Indians feed and protect strays as part of our culture of compassion.

We demand the Supreme Court REVERSE this order and instead:

1.  Promote on-site sterilization, vaccination, and feeding zones.

2.  Allow institutions to adopt humane dog management policies.

3.  Consult animal welfare experts and NGOs before such drastic measures.
