Safer Environment at SC by Addressing the Rogue Dog Issue

Background: There have been cases of attack reported against the stray Chiku for over two years now at South City. There have been attempts to remove strays from South City earlier that were met with opposition from groups sympathetic with strays.

Current status: In the recent cases reported, Chiku has been getting more and more territorial and attacking both dogs and humans. What is especially worrisome is that he is using strategy to sneak up from behind and attempts to bite. The park area, the tennis court area and the routes between tower 1 and 4 are all various areas where he has been attacking.

Action: A group of individuals recently complained about the attacks in one of the WhatsApp group and it was decided that they will meet the concerned SC representative for possible solutions on Sunday 23rd, April, 2023, 10:30am.

Outcome: The group of animal lovers is not against strays but each member has been deeply traumatised by the growing aggressive behaviour of a single stray. They jointly requested for Chiku to be relocated to an appropriate shelter with necessary one-time payment that may be jointly borne by board and interested pet-owners.

Action: Signed petition for SC board to be submitted by Ms Jayshree. All in support for the humane solution of relocating Chiku to a decent shelter for the overall safety of South City residents and pets (especially children and senior citizens), are requested to sign this petition. Let's act before we hear of another mishap!

Supportings:

1. Chiku had bit my son way back in 2021, he was playing in the park and without any provocation he bit my son

~Amrita

2.Chiku has bitten Atom twice. He is aggressive every day but either we take a detour or we ward him off. He comes from nowhr and attacks from the back

3. Stray dog Chiku has tried attacking my pet too 2/3 times but was scared away by the stick I had in my hand.

4. Chiku has bitten my Zorro twice and attacks any moment he feels like .. he’s a big threat to my peace .. have complained in office but they say these stray dogs are being protected by few pet lovers of residents from being taken any action .. but what are we supposed to do ! And are they at all vaccinated ?? My pet had to go through vaccination course twice after bites .. I’m not against giving shelter to these stray dogs here but if they are a constant threat to our pets the matter should be taken care of.

5. Yesterday, we were chased by Chiku while I was walking Toffee.

6. Today my pet pudding was just about to be attacked by chiku. Just by gods grace and my mothers presence of mind he got saved 😒

7. My dog churmur is one of the most loving dogs. She was bitten by a stray and my walker had to give her injection to avoid any infection/complication. He's now telling me that I should put a complaint formally. Firstly I'm mad at him for not taking the right precaution or being distracted. Plus I'm amazed that we need to mobilise majority to understand that a violent stray should not be in our residential campus. It's common sense.

8. update- Chiku attacked our driver this morning, and he didn’t have turbo with him. On a very serious note, this dog is getting more and more hostile by the day- not only with other dogs, but people as well. Can someone please share the contact of the concerned party, or do I just go to the tower 1 office to file a complaint?

~Zynah

9. I was walking Turbo the other day as well, and the stray around the football ground (I’m assuming it’s Chiku) attacked turbo. Chased us all the way to tower 4. This stray is quite defensive about his territory. There are several strays around the complex, but they rest are quite friendly- even with Turbo. However, this one is turning out to be a bit of a headache.

10. Chiku has learnt to recognise my children and me, and chases us wherever he sees us even without our dogs.

11. A case was reported that a small dog from tower 5 passed away because it was bitten by a SC stray.

(More incidents can be made available for reference if required)
