SAVING OUR WESTLAND, WEST COAST AND NEW ZEALAND HERITAGE

Our Carnegie Building restoration is underway albeit very slow and after being closed for so long. Westland Pioneers descendants stand strong for our Heritage, we have respect for the hard yards and years our forebears went through and the good works they did to develop Westland and New Zealand.    Our stories of our families are of interest to expats those who have shifted away but love to know and hear about their roots here.

All of our Westland Historic features and assets are a reminder of our local history, the artefacts and peices of memorabillia held in trust, is for genuine reminisce, for education, for respect of our early settlers to New Zealand.  These assets held by Council/s are significant to us and we as in us of most interest, or those of most interest in heritage/historic values must be including in consultation for any project or change which Council may enter as to ensure good decision making.

SAVING OUR WESTLAND, WEST COAST AND NEW ZEALAND HERITAGE

As Pioneer Descendants of our 1850's 1860's early settlers we are adamant that we must be including in any Council decision making to do with our Heritage, along with all others who have Heritage interests.

This petition is to show that we say "No to meddling with Heritage, No to shonky consultation, No to wasting rate/tax monies" by Council or any Govt. entities. Our parents have paid well as we have too for our Museum facility, the Carnegie Building and Drummond Hall Building upkeep.

We ratepayers of Westland who have artefacts, have paid for those such facilities must be involved in any Council decision making.   We opposed purchase of Mountain Jade Building, where Council stated they were shifting our Hokitika Museum and we oppose exclusion or shutting us out of decisions.

We long term people must be considered, respected, included - nothing short of it.

Thanks for keeping up our petition to ensure our Heritage is well maintained, available and not altered.

WE Pioneer descendants are still waiting for our Westland, Hokitika Carnegie Building and Drummond Hall to be strengthened, maintained to ensure our Museum and artefacts are placed where they have been both paid for in rates and given in good faith. While our local New Zealand visitors travel through and family return we reiterate how important this project is and really should have been given priority and significance from our Council rather than purchasing another building... have your say on our petition as it continues to circulate and thank you to those who have participated in support of our cause.

Sign and Share to keep up the publicity for our Heritage. Its slow going to get our Westland Museum open again - other projects were given priority over our Heritage (which has been meddled with as well!!!).  Thanks for all support to ensure our artefacts, heritage, histority is not altered but displayed well for future purposes and all those visiting our area of which we have been early Westland Pioneers.         Hokitika Carnegie Building Report Update from Chief Executive Westland District Council -
Since the last report we have been successful in our application for funding from Culture
& Heritage Fund for the Carnegie Building project. This lead us into negotiations with the
preferred tenderer.
Unfortunately post tender contract negotiations have not been successful with the
proposed contractor mainly due to:
1. Building conditions and associated strengthening methodologies have changed
due to intrusive investigation completed post tender.
2. Services works have been updated to comply with performance specification (Te
Papa) and a competitive price is now required for this substantial part of the
building upgrade.
Based on this have proceeded to go out for re-tender on an accelerated timeframe. The
timeframe would be to have the new pricing completed within a three week period. We
are currently running at four weeks for the building consent so we could therefore still
have a start date in early March. No substantial change to programme.
We are working through Joseph Associates for the project management.

SIGN AND SHARE OUR PETITIONS - WE ARE NOT TO BE EXCLUDED BY THIS COUNCIL.

SAVING OUR WESTLAND, WEST COAST AND NEW ZEALAND HERITAGE

Keep up the support for Saving Hokitika Westland Heritage.   Three main points made known to our Council and those they appoint work to are: 1. No to Meddling with our Heritage  2. No to Shonky Consultation  3.  No to wasting rate and tax paid monies.   Our heritage and history is a valuable asset.  Carnegie Building really should have been restored well before now and open as a both educational, vistor attraction, displays, storeage of artefacts and history notes. Along with genealogy the artefacts (toanga)has been donated, is precious and must be held in greatest respect. Our history is to be kept real and not re written.

Thank you for passing the messages on - lets hope for a good new year 2021 for our heritage purposes.

WE People of Westland are proud for all that our Pioneers gave and sacrificed during early settler times.  The difficulties they endured and overcame during such hardships, conditions and unexpected hurdles.. we have those stories.  Some made it, some didn't - through sickness and health, wartime and peace. Those hardships and good times are recognised, we are appreciative of all the efforts our ancestors have done here.  News is the Carnegie Building on MacAndrew Square is to be restored. We still await Council/s plans and also re  Drummond House building which is also part of the Carnegie Building Museum.  WE People of Westland must ensure that Council/s and Leaders do respect our Heritage and never meddle or breach legislation in consultation - they must give us their plans, details and consult with us and those of most interest in Heritage and other projects of significance. It is their duty to do so.  Westland District Council have gone ahead against majority of objections,  with purchasing the 41 Weld Street building which we also objected to and any shifting our Museum.. (we also ended up being taken through Council Lawyers for supposed defamation due to our protest which was again seen unfair!) BUT:   WE STAND STRONG FOR GOOD REASON AND GOOD FAITH..for all that our forebears went through for New Zealand.  Merry Christmas 2020 = our Carnegie Building and our Hoktitika Government Building - and other heritage sites ARE HIGHLIGHTED .. keep watch and keep speaking up for Council/s to oblige legislation and in respect for all that our forebears have given here in Westland, West Coast and New Zealand.  Thanks for your great support in this petition for our heritage...keep passing the word on.   A. +20200911_111753_1600392993062.jpg

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE & SIGN PETITION -

WE are so pleased to have the support we do from people,  those with close interests to our heritage here,  Westland, West Coast, New Zealand and even Australia. We remain steadfast in that 41 Weld Street should not have be bought, as we have called for reductions in rates and for people using facilities to pay. Our exisiting buildings are where our Heritage is.  We stand for fairness.  Council failed in their due process AND also proper consultation - our Carnegie Building & Drummond Hall should be fit for purpose with monies applied which have already been paid both in donations, rates, depreciation. Our Heritage is of much value to us. WE Pioneer descendants have been excluded by those in Governance and or a Mayor overstepping his powers.  WE Pioneer descendants, whose families have sacrificed and done hard yards here and others of most interest call to action for the return of all artefacts of the pioneering families and individuals to their rightful resting place in the Carnegie Library Building and Drummond Hall.
