As one of the 5 doctors who share the after hours roster I thank you all for your support! We definitely don't support the move of after hours services to Clyde and will do anything we can to continue to look after our community.

I am ex-Cromwell and may very well be back there one day in my older age to retire and I would like to think there is safety and security in access to urgent medical attention especially after hours if it is ever needed.

This is outrageous. Leave the funding as it is foe the Cromwell After Hours Doctors

Who knows when we might need it?

We need this service to continue otherwise there will be loss of life. Not everyone gets sick or has an accident during the daytime hours. We are already at a disadvantage with services in this area without taking away more from us.

My parents live in Tarras, they are both over 65, although they are in good health, Mum had to call the after hours recently when Dad was unresponsive at night. She was incredibly grateful at the prompt attendance of local GP Brendon Pauley.

I have family in Cromwell so have concerns for their safety especially as I've read that the town is growing (Otago District Council report) quite fast. To have one doctor stationed at perhaps Clyde and covering Tarras over to Roxburgh is irresponsible and foolhardy. Think again please! The community needs this service.

The truth is that current afterhours in central otago are not sustainable.  The current funding model (which is historic) strongly favours some practices over others and hence their reluctance to lose this funding.  The vast majority of practices in central otago have voted in favour of change.  The new model of how afterhours will be delivered has not been finalised yet but a service out of Dunstan with input and engagement of the hospital is likely.  People also need to appreciate that even in urban areas, it is not uncommon to have a 20-30 minute drive to the closest oncall doctor service.  Of course, in a perfect world we would all love an oncall service 24/7 and close to home. With 42% of gps retiring in next 10 years and cost of healthcare rocketing, the status quo is not sustainable.

I used to live in this area and know that not much thought has gone into this proposal. IDIOTS.Is a helicopter going to be used for urgent cases?

so they want to spend 25mil on a new flag that we don't need but won't fund an after hours doctor for Central Otago

Cromwell is a growing population,. Getting to Dunstan Hospital for Daytime appointments is a barrier to health for many, afterhours will be increasingly more difficult and the wait time to be seen longer, do not take our services away

I am a resident in this area and know how much the service is used. The proposed coverage is not good enough.

This service is a must for so many reasons not just because we have had to use it several times since we moved here from Christchurch. Our system needs a shake up before any more lives are lost purely due to loss of funding or cutting costs!!

3 of my family members have life threatening allergies to bees. They require immediate medical treatment and have often been stung 'after hours' ... The time it takes to travel to a doctor in Alexandra is far too long when suffering anaphylaxis. Moving the after hours docotor to Dunstan hospital is putting the lives of my family at great risk.

Cromwell is expanding ....
Cromwell deserves the best situation for its people not to have this taken from them

My young nieces live there and have used this service several times. They are likely to continue to need this service as are others in Cromwell and surrounds

I signed as my family with a 8 year old grandson live in Cromwell our grandson also has an allergy to nuts so feel safer if help is at hand if needed. also Cromwell is a growing community and should not be overlooked in the funding.

This is the first I have heard of this situation and am mortified by this stupid decision. Obviously someone is trying to save a few bucks at the expense of young children elderly and just the general family household.

As someone who visits Cromwell regularly with young children, I'd hate to have to throw them in the car to then travel to Dunstan (and back) for after hours medical visits, especially given that if your children are unwell enough to go to after hours, they're usually very unwell.
