New Zealand Flower Farmers deserve fairer treatment and consideration. Support contactless deliveries for cut flowers through level 3 and 4 Delta lockdown.

I see no reason why transporting flowers to markets is any greater risk to carting food to supermarket s or allowing
Bottle stores to stay open and sell alcohol !!!!!which I really find quite weird to beClassed AsEssential.flowers unlike alcohol flowers alter peoples brains in a good way with their intoxicating aroma and physical beauty … I’m in the trade so I see how flower s and florists help cheer people up ..essential yes

The impact on flower growers is too severe. Arbitrary rules are needlessly destroying people’s hard work and livelihoods. We need more compromise here.

SK Oosterbaan (Wellington, 2021-09-09)

#2609

I’m tired of seeing small business struggle in the lockdown with no support or interest in making things easier from the Government.

Emma Cox (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2615

I believe flower growers and associated businesses can produce and provide their products and services in a safe, contactless manner as many other industries are currently doing so at all alert levels.

Ash Lawson (Napier , 2021-09-09)

To show support and agree that it’s for mental health.

Samantha Jury (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

Because flowers make me happy, they make my friends happy and staying at home for weeks is the time we need flowers the most!!

Olya Ishina (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2628

I believe that flowers would help ease stress and bring joy to everyone during this difficult time. They could be delivered in a contactless way just as groceries are x

Judith Walker (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2629

I have friends that run businesses in the flower industry and they are struggling so much. They should be getting the support they need like any other industry in New Zealand is getting.

Amanda Jackson (Wellington, 2021-09-09)

#2638

I am a florist whose livlihood depends on flower growers, farmers and wholesalers. Without them I have no income. I feel that we can safely operate through lockdowns with contactless deliveries.

Nichola McMullen (Wanganui, 2021-09-09)

#2649

Who wouldn’t want fresh flowers in their little homes while they’re stuck there in level 3 and 4?
Plus obviously because it makes no sense for this to be the only perishable not accepted to be essential

Francesca Hendl (Cambridge , 2021-09-09)

#2652

Flowers are the only Perciable product at level 4 that can be delivered contactlessly. It’s a huge blow for these farmers and the future of the industry as well as a huge amount of hard work going to waste

Jessie Blundell (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2653

Having flowers boosts our spirits in lockdown and supports this industry

Liz Greenslade (Waiheke, 2021-09-09)

#2656

I totally agree with flowers support love kindness and mental health

Joan McLaughlin (Te Awamutu, 2021-09-09)

#2664

Flowers, especially organically grown ones bring joy. I'd rather look at a bunch of flowers than drink a bottle of wine - any day :-)

This is their livelihood.

Michele van den Brink (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

I work in the floral industry. It breaks my heart to see this unnecessary waste and destruction of small business. There are workable solutions to this problem if only the Government would work with the industry. Just another example of the governments inability to connect with everyday, hardworking New Zealanders.

Carolyn Harmon (Christchurch, 2021-09-09)

#2672

I feel that this industry has been singled out unfairly . If they lose their crops they lose a whole year of income . Also flowers are as important as wine . It’s not fair that hospitality can send out alcohol while a whole industry is threatened

Raewyn Mackenzie (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2674

I support this petition.

Kylie Ingham (Warkworth , 2021-09-09)

#2677

I am signing because it is breaking my heart to see all these beautiful blooms go to waste and their growers completely helpless to it! I see no reason why flowers can't be sold in the supermarkets or individually with contactless delivery like all other items that are still being delivered during lvl 4 !!

Ella Mishan (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2678

I believe any fresh produce business should be an essential business.
Stopping the business from working is criminal when fresh produce is bieng wasted

Savannah Hobbs (Puhoi, 2021-09-09)

#2679

If supermarkets can sell flowers why can growers not, providing it is all done contactlessly? Flowers are just as beneficial for mental health as other items like chocolate and alcohol. These are not essential yet are still able to be sold in supermarkets and delivered.

Rachael Jamieson (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2680

I have been a florist for over 25 years and this industry is essential for so many people. In recent years I have the quality of our NZ grown flowers bloom. So incredibly cool to handle flowers that aren't dosed in pesticides, etc. We can safely operate to bring people joy at Level 4. 🌻

Megan Verney (Te Puke , 2021-09-09)

#2683

Flowers are an essential service and a perishable item. They exist to light up the life of people in lockdown and need to continue to be shared

Lili Bay (Christchurch, 2021-09-09)

#2685

It is a terrible waste for no good reason. Flower growers can adhere to the same protocols as produce growers. Let these hardworking people continue to make a living.

Tracey Harford (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2692

I believe flowers can be a contactless delivery. Auckland supplies lots of places outside of Auckland and now they don't have stock.

Linda Barclay (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2696

I am a home gardener and I know the time, hard work and love and MONEY that goes into building your garden. This is also their lively hoods. They should be able to provide as a non contactless delivery and/or click and collect. Plus plants and gardening and flowers is a mental health saviour, it brings joy and happiness to everyone.

Ravenscroft Kim (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2697

I believe flower farmers should be treated just like other growers during covid times, flowers make you feel good they look beautiful giving you a moment's distraction in the current situation we all face. The perfect gift to yourself or someone else when you are over all the eating during lockdown!! It saddens me deeply to think of all the flowers that have gone to waste during level 4.

Sheridan Slattery (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2699

I support people's ability to safely support and maintain their livelihoods during covid

Jenny Knight (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2701

I’m signing because this is ludicrous. I’ve had three birthdays within the past three weeks and couldn’t find a flower anywhere. In fact it is incredibly depressing not being able to buy a bunch of flowers to brighten ones mood. Yet we can buy a pie - made by hand. Go figure. Such a blatant kick in the guts for all our dedicated Flower Growers.

Debra Meichtry (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2705

I support this petition.

Ellie Martin (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2707

Fresh flowers are one of the true joys of life. I have friends who rely on this income and it’s awful seeing all their hard work go to waste. I believe cut flowers should be an essential product and flower growers could deliver directly with contactless delivery safely during all levels.

Richard Hodder (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2708

I support the independent flower growers of New Zealand and their efforts to keep their businesses viable. Growers are often overlooked in w public domain and we all take their hard work and graft for granted. Let them sell !

Marcelle Vause (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2710

My heart hoes out to these (mainly) small business owners/ growers/farmers. They should be treated no differently than food producers....

Erin Frost (Rotorua, 2021-09-09)

#2715

For the betterment of growers but also flowers could provide some much needed joy in tough seasons.

Elena Reihana (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

We are growing Cymbidium Cut Flowers and going through hard time, it’s a small family business and we don’t have any other means of income.

I'm signing because NZ needs to support it's primary industries to keep NZ flourishing!

Amanda Nottage (Palmerston North, 2021-09-09)

#2720

I’m signing because I support flower farmers!

Jenn McKenzie (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2723

Flowers bring so much joy to people and instantly change your mood. If you feel good the world around you can seem better also.
For the growers producing flowers it's a massive kick in the guts to see all the planning, tending and financial outlay being thrown on the compost heap.
Delivery of flowers to stores can totally be contactless so should be considered again to make this change for now and any future lockdowns.

Shelley Forrester (CHRISTCHURCH, 2021-09-09)

They are farmers, simple fact, there product will fail otherwise

I care about the fresh flower industry, and flowers bring happiness and help mental health! We need them!!

Bevan Walsh (Queenstown, 2021-09-09)

#2730

I recognise how tough these lockdowns are some businesses. Covid has been around for over a year now. Govt should have a better plan moving forward by now especially for lockdown as to who can operate. If contactless can't see the risk.

Dean Taylor (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2733

I agree flower growers should be able to open for contactless sales

Donal Mclean (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2737

My daughter is a florist, and we love having flowers in the house.

Stephen Doyle (Orewa, 2021-09-09)

#2738

This needs to happen. Flowers are scientifically proven to elevate mood and combat negativity. Much needed in these times !!! Don’t let the flowers go to waste please. We need them.

Emma bass (Mount Eden, 2021-09-09)

#2743

Flower Farmers deserve protection. And it’s heartbreaking that some many beautiful flowers are going to waste

Chloe Baxter (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

It isn’t fair

Anita Affleck (New Plymouth, 2021-09-09)

#2749

My father very recently passed during L4 and we had friends and family who wanted to express their sympathy especially to my mum by sending flowers but they couldn't because of the Governments ruling on florists. 😢

Julia Harrison (Howick, 2021-09-09)

#2751

Whether it is a cellebration, memory or appteciation, few things can uplift the spirit like flowers.

Pat Murdoch (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2758

I believe that flower sales can be managed safely under any lockdown level.

Adrienne Wright (Whangarei, 2021-09-09)

#2763

We have to keep NZ working! It’s not ok for any business to suffer a loss because of this virus! Let the growers sell their stock so they can earn an income to survive!

Lorna Muller (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2766

Business needs to be open. Covid is killing more livelihoods than anything else. People need to be able to provide for themselves and their families.

Suva Kenny (Hamilton , 2021-09-09)

#2767

It is such a waste to thrive out the flowers and very unfair to growers. Also contactless delivery/pick up is easy for the growers.

Kathleen Davis (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2768

Flowers bring people happiness and for the growers it brings grief to throw all their hard work in the rubbish

Alicia Jennings (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#2771

Flowers are way more essential than some other things that are allowed to be distributed during Level 4 eg alcohol. Flowers are good for our mental health. The garden centres are closed and instead of buying plants, many would like to buy flowers to brighten their day. Not to mention all the people who deserve a bunch of flowers for helping others, to cheer them up while feeling alone and isolated or who are not allowed to see loved ones on their birthday. Flowers dropped off contactless would be great. SO MUCH WASTE of beautiful flowers and hard work by the growers!!!

Deborah Hillman (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

#2773

In times of major mental and emotional stress and anxiety amongst NZers (as a consequence of COVID lockdown), the ability to access fresh flowers is very important. It is no wonder that we give flowers to new parents, grieving family and friends of a family member who has died - or in celebration of success (eg to Olympic medal winners). Fresh flowers remind people that we care for - and support - them.

Accordingly, not only is the Govt's action devastating flower growers - but also preventing the healing opportunities from giving and receiving fresh NZ grown flowers to work their magic on the recipients.

Conway Powell (Dunedin, 2021-09-09)

#2777

Im signing this because I believe flowers, blooms & foliage make people smile. Colour, smell and the sentiment of botanicals make the world a happier place. We need this more (or at least just as much as) wine - which is exempt, right now. Nature brings joy and improves mental health. Please consider.

Kristel Maroszek (Queenstown, 2021-09-09)

#2778

If a business can operate in a contactless way there is no reason that they should not be able to operate in level 4 and 3. Waste is not ok in any industry

Alison Hickmott (Motueka, 2021-09-09)

#2783

This industry needs our support when they work hard to provide something that brings so much joy to people. When alcohol is deemed a 'necessity' and allowed to be delivered but something as mood lifting as flowers are not? It doesn’t seem fair. These are self employed New Zealanders and they they can’t just put the stock on the shelf until later. Please support the people in this industry.

Anna O'Neil (Christchurch, 2021-09-10)

#2793

I love the way flowers brighten all situations and aesthetically I love their form colours and perfumes

Annie Melchior (Aucland, 2021-09-10)

#2798

Flowers are beautiful to have around the home, are so important for mental health and just make you feel good! In level 4 lockdown I’d send these to myself, to family and friends to mark special occasions and to loved ones that we can’t get to in times like these to brighten their day. Flowers last longer than wine or cakes that you can get delivered during level 4, so why not include them as an essential item?!
Plus the hard work of all those in the flower industry should not go to waste, when instead they could bring so much JOY! #supportsmallbusiness #mentalhealth #nz
