I'm signing because it is devastating to see all those beautiful blooms being composted and farmers livelihoods in jeopardy.
I totally support all that has been written and believe this is one industry that been overlooked.

Sandra Sleeman (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#409

Watching your livelihood rot is a devastating outcome for any human, particularly when you see others who happen to grow different plants able to trade.

Kate May (Pahiatua, 2021-09-08)

#414

It’s unjust

Jackie King (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#415

I believe flowers are just as important as alcohol is to others. Not fair on a small window of time flowers are good for gifting or buying contactless.

Janine Pieterse (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#419

Currently the rules are unfair!

Laura Pitts (Hamilton , 2021-09-08)

#421

Flower growers should be able to sell at level 4!!!

Miriam Archer (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#423

I am a florist and I know the effect that flowers have on people, especially during the hard times. They are really an essential service in terms of providing some light relief to people who are doing it hard. Also the growers livelihood is based around being able to supply flowers to florists, supermarkets and wholesalers. Please consider this petition and allow us to operate under level 4.

Richelle Mullins (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#424

I am a florist myself, and see the time and effort that goes into growing flowers. Covid has not only impacted the floral industry but removed it completely. Flower Farmers are the backbone of our industry, and without them we will not have an industry to come back too when we come out of lockdown. All my flowers previously have been delivered con tactlessly and traceable, so I do not see any issues around how it could not carry on further.

Jacinta Hailes (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#431

I'm signing this because I agree with all that's been said. the florist industry needs to maintain the growth of flowers and delivery through lockdown under the same condition that other 'essential' suppliers are.

Ann Crawford (auckland, 2021-09-08)

#432

I support flowers being able to sold whilst in lockdown. Flowers make people happy, a little joy could make the world of difference to the state of people’s mental health in these times of intense restrictions and doom and gloom! Why wouldn’t you let the sale of flowers to go ahead if it can make people’s day a little brighter. Come in Jacinda give us a you need to give us a blooming break!

Nicky Johns Kerr (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#433

I’m signing to support our local growers. It bring these important beauties into our homes in these times is essential!!

Helen Bankers (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#435

It's crazy all this work going to waste and is clearly safe to sell.

Luke Nabarro (Muriwai, 2021-09-08)

#436

I 100% support the selling of locally grown perishable flowers in level 4

Jolene Wilkinson (Dunedin, 2021-09-08)

#437

This is important for the flower growers and industry

Karyn Honey (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#440

I’m signing because flowers are so uplifting in difficult times and flower growers work too hard to see their blooms wilt in the fields.

Katherine Batchelor (Nundle , 2021-09-08)

#441

Flowers are essential!

Jessanah Betham (Porirua, 2021-09-08)

#445

Why should flowers be the ONLY good not allowed to be sold in the supermarket. The effect that a gorgeous bloom has on people in a time of uncertainty is enormous. Uplifting and comforting. The industry can not survive constantly being locked down. It is easy for growers/ pickers to work alone and for the goods to be contactless. Common sense . No flexibility for the industry. Yet they allow food ""shops"to be open.

kris Gallagher (Christchurch, 2021-09-08)

Lisa Middleton (Ohope, 2021-09-08)

#449

This is yet another inequitable decision on the lockdown rules which are not well thought through and show no kindness nor any understanding of the predicament of many businesses - in a word ‘stupid’

Kate Hastings (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#450

I believe flowers can be delivered in a low risk way (like many other products in level 4), they brighten our homes in a time of stress and we should support this industry.

Lucy B (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#454

I believe its an essential service - Florists are trading at level two and need the product. Its a perishable product that cannot be put on hold and it is destroying the economy - product wise and livelihood wise ! It is certainly ONE aspect of this difficult world that does not need to be difficult . I believe all perishable goods SHOULD be an essential service - Its totally common sense and unnecessarily soul destroying and destroying financial futures. Productivity can be just as safe and preformed in a non contact environment - more so than shopping at your local supermarket

Veronica Dawson (Gore , 2021-09-08)

#458

I love flowers and definitely think they make a difference in people's lives, especially when they are lonely and isolated from other people. They are an essential service. And the flower farmers deserve to have their hard work acknowledged and paid for.

Tina Sailer (Waiheke Island, 2021-09-08)

#467

Flowers would help my mental health during lockdowns!

Rach Marris (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#470

I know that flowers are an essential item that can be delivered safely in level 4

Fiona Henderson (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#472

I agree that there are safe ways for our Auckland NZ flower farmers to sell and distribute their product, with it being perishable and seasonal. This would prevent huge waste, help maintain their livelihood and keep prices of flowers throughout the rest of NZ from being driven so high because demand cannot match supply. This in turn also allows the rest of the industry throughout NZ - florists/events/etc - to continue and to be successful.

Lorraine Forlong (Raglan, 2021-09-08)

#473

I have been a flower grower for 23 years, and we have just sold our property 3 months ago. We still have our other business as a flower wholesaler. As a wholesaler I agree that it would be easy to sell flowers in a contactless way during level 4. This IS the only perishable product that is not allowed to be sold at level 4, yet I can purchase alcohol, lollies, and go whitebaiting. The shortsightedness of the government to not include the flowers as an essential primary product is ignorant .

Susan Ward (Nelson, 2021-09-08)

#474

Flower farmers should be able to operate in L4!

Brenna O’Neill (Wanganui, 2021-09-08)

#480

Our industry needs help.

Mindy Dalzell (Wellington , 2021-09-08)

#481

It’s a crime to let these beauties of nature go to waste, and it’s hurting our flower growers so deeply. It’s time to change the rules.

Bridget McFlinn (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#497

I don’t want to lose the amazing flower growers we have in NZ. Local, seasonal flowers not imported flowers with a massive carbon footprint.

sue dempsey (Wellington, 2021-09-08)

#499

Flowers are much more beneficial to our mental health than wine!! They are an essential item, (Some flowers are even edible,) I support contact deliveries for cut flowers during level 3 & 4 delta lockdown

Celine Halstead (UPPER MOUTERE, 2021-09-08)

#500

I am nz born, i have worked in the cut flowers industry for 3 years in new zealand, now i am doing the same in the Netherlands.
Cut flowers are not the same as nursery plants and should be treated the same as other fresh produce as their shelf life is relatively short. The sector in NZ is wonderful i would hate to see many of the small family businesses close. The cut flower industry has remained open throughout the pandemic over here (nl), as you cannot tell plants to stop going.
I hope the growers and industry get support.

Jane Medlicott (Beverwijk, 2021-09-08)

#505

This is unreasonably unfair to our local flower growers that we rely on as florists to provide flowers to our customers throughout the country. They should be able to trade in level 4 or we risk loosing a key part of the industry which would increase our reliance on imported products.

Elle Fisher (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#509

We are a florist shop in level 2 now. Im pretty sure Auckland growers could safely pick flowers and box them to Wellington market or other wholesale operators around the country, where they could be sold and not wasted.

Tanya Koens (Hastings, 2021-09-08)

#510

I am a florist & agree it is unfair on flower growers to not have any outlet for their flowers in lockdown. Even if it is just thru supermarkets & delivery.

Linda Butchet (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#513

Months of work is being trown out, what a waste of time and money.
They have to continue to work even knowing that the beautiful flowers will be destroyed in some way.
Flower farmers can work within their own bubbles and deliver flowers contactless and supermarkets before they open.
They can do this safely and easily.
As a consumer my mental health is vastly improved when I have fresh flowers and I know many other people who feel like this.

Melissa Sowden (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#515

Things has to change !!
As a florist it’s unbelievable to accept this situation and see those perishable beauties going to the bin !!flowers Growers are totally able to pick and trade in the safety conditions required under level 3 and 4 ! Come on gouvernement wake up and open your eyes on the disaster you are contributing !! Do you want to be only depending with foreign importations in the future ?!

Camille Pinceaux (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#516

Flowers are seasonal and cannot be stored, thousands have to be destroyed when they could be shipped contactless to dairy, supermarkets, even purchased on line by individuals. They lift people's spirits, make people feel happy in times if stress. There has to be some reconsideration for this business or these growers will go out of business and we will be paying a fortune for a posy of happiness.

Lee Dewsnap (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#517

Flowers make us feel better and are more important than alcohol and many other things the supermarkets etc are allowed to sell in level 4.

Angela Aitken (Waiheke Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#518

I'm signing because the earth laughs in flowers and in these dire times joy is essential. I'm of the waste not ethic.

Lauren McGlashan (Waiheke , 2021-09-08)

#524

Everyone loves flowers, they brighten people’s day. I think the farmers deserve to be able to sell their product during lockdown and contactless delivery would be a safe option

Jade Rouse Bollee (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#525

I love flowers and don’t want to see them go to waste! Contactless delivery is exactly the same for flowers as it is for groceries.

Isabel Wilson (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#526

So hard time keeping flower business.

Seonhee Lee (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#528

Flower farmers can sell their flowers safely in L4 without compromising public health. It’s only fair that they be allowed to do so. Months of work and huge expense has gone into growing these flowers which are highly perishable. It’s more than just lost income - great care, love and dedication has gone into growing these flowers. At a time when people need flowers the most, it’s so unnecessary to require that they be thrown in the compost pile.

Kim Parker (Katikati, 2021-09-08)

#539

I work for a flower grower and we put so much time and effort into the flowers and growing that it is so upsetting to throw them out

Caitlyn McNab (New Plymouth, 2021-09-08)

#541

I'm signing because flowers.... 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼 💐

Collene Morgan (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#544

Missing having flowers to brighten up the house at a time when that is just what is needed, it may not be essential for survival but it is a great wellbeing booster for many to have fresh flowers.
It is a shame for hard-working growers to have to compost their flowers and be the only perishable-goods to not be able to sell in L4

Annabel Venning (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#545

I fully support that the flower industry could maintain covid safe and compliant business that would help them from completely losing all their produce and falling into debt. We should be supporting all our growers in NZ to maintain a prosperous community and if we can do so safely then let's do it!

Renée Dale (AUCKLAND, 2021-09-08)

#546

It's such a shame something thay could be done pretty safely and brighten people's day in the awful time is not happening and risking people's livelihoods but I can buy premade cocktails to be delivered in 24 hours

Gemma Dickson (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#554

I'm a flower farmer with Spring crops due any day soon. If we go back into lockdown that will be thousands of dollars invested in the ground and no way to recover those costs. The same will apply with our summer crops already planted. We need change to stop us all going out of business and imported flowers dominating the market.

Julie Treanor (Upper Hutt, 2021-09-08)

#557

Its vital to the industry

Melissa Hadley (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#562

This simply isn’t fair

Sofie Park (New Plymouth , 2021-09-08)

#570

I believe flower growers deserve more rights under lockdown alert levels - if wine can be delivered safely and contactlessly, why not flowers? I agree they are more important for mental health and it hurts so much to think of the wastage happening when so many people could benefit from these. I support any method of flowers being safely available in all levels of lockdown

Rebecca Dieudonne (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#571

Flower growers are the only perishible suppliers unable to sell - hardly fair. Also the mental health value this could provide people with.

Alyssia Matthews (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#573

I'm a florist and this directly impacts my ability to trade

Angela MacDonald (Wellington , 2021-09-08)

#576

Because I’m a florist and get the privilege to create beautiful flowers for people and can’t do that without our amazing flower growers!

Kelly Tootell (Whakatane, 2021-09-08)

#578

I completely agree, these people have spent months of not years propagating and preparing plants and flowers that are now going to waste leaving them in the lurch.

Claudia Boyo (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#579

Flowers in my opinion are an essential item, with too many reasons to list

Lynda Brennan (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#580

This situation is unfair

Nikky Seales (Whangamata, 2021-09-08)

#581

I am a florist and feel strongly about the current situation for flower growers

Sarita Taylor (Hawkes Bay, 2021-09-08)

#593

Flower farmers deserve fairer consideration and protection

Emma Shearer (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#595

I'm signing in support of the local cut flower growing industry because I believe flower farmers deserve fairer consideration and protection and that flowers are as meaningful as many other goods able to be sold under Level 4. There are many ways for cut flowers to be distributed safely.

Margaret Chapman (Waitakere, 2021-09-08)

#596

I believe flowers can be sold and harvested in just as a safe manner as vegetables and other produce in all levels! We all need flowers!

Paula Boyd (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#597

I’m signing because there should be a way for flower growers to sell safely in level 3 and 4 without having to waste so many flowers and lose so much $$$ and time spent growing.

Shani McGee (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#598

I am a florist and without the wonderful growers doing the amazing work they do we all will not survive. Flowers are given often at a time of sorrow and are an essential part in people being able to convey and receive love which can be very calming and healing. Flowers are defiantly helpful for wellbeing. The industry is large and well established and the harm being done to it is unfathomable and unnecessary

Angela Castle (Invercargill, 2021-09-08)
