Flower farmers matter! It’s not just about the pretty flowers going to waste, but all the hard work behind the scenes that goes into nothing. So sad.

I’m signing because I work in the industry. Also when there are no funerals or birthday celebrations etc allowed- flowers are one of the few ways people can express themselves, make a connection & show sorrow/sympathy or happiness & joy of an event in someone’s life. Flowers are perfect for making a connection on any occasion.

Marie McGregor (Red Beach , 2021-09-08)

I am signing because my heart goes out to you all and we are desperately missing the beautiful flowers you grow. The shops are empty of blooms yet can sell chocolate and wine. How can their best equity in that as surely flowers for the soul are healthier and more essential than wine

Ihave been in the floristry industry for over 40 years of which the last 30 running my own business It is of great concern to me that we are losing so many Nz grown beautiful blooms Flowers evoke an emotion that no other gift does and I am passionate about NZ grown product

We need the growers to be able to supply their flowers far and wide! Being able to buy fresh flowers on a regular basis is beneficial to our mental well being. In a world where things are so disjointed and pharken up having access to fresh flowers helps to bring a smile.

Andy Riddell (Wellington , 2021-09-08)

#1241

It’s a no brainer! If you can deliver broccoli you can deliver flowers.

Sami Meyer (Warkworth, 2021-09-08)

#1245

I love and want flowers

Rennae Arbon (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1249

I believe flower growers should be able to sell flowers during all levels of lockdown for metal health and to help NZ businesses stay alive.

MJ Bliss (Waiheke Island, 2021-09-08)

#1250

I’m signing because not only do the growers need an income but flowers brighten all our lives and we could all do with something brightening during lockdown

Hayley Neale (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1254

Its not right or fair on the flower growers.

Sherrie Edwards (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1256

I'm signing because these growers depend on the sale of their beautiful flowers to feed their families and survive. The waste is terribly sad to see these flowers thrown on the rubbish heap.

Jeanette Dick (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1260

I believe flowertrade can continue in a safe contactless way to prevent the spread of Covid19.
This would help to keep this part of horticulture, the flower industry, afloat as enormous amounts of product is being wasted.
Thanks.

Carla Boonekamp (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1268

I'm signing because this is ridiculous! Do not put livelihoods and therefore lives at risk unnecessarily! Support flower growers to continue to trade. Thank you!

Julia Robb (Frome, 2021-09-08)

#1269

Selling a bunch of flowers 💐 is no different to selling a bunch of bananas. It brings people more joy.

Philippa Owen (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1272

Hate seeing all the beauty and hard work of flower growers on compost heap

Elizabeth Firth (Waiheke , 2021-09-08)

#1274

I believe that any perishable crop should be given dispensation during Level 4 lockdowns. It's simply not fair to the grower.

Lynette Hayward (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1278

The government, bought and paid for scientists under the instructions of gloalists are using the pandem!c as an excuse to crush small businesses. The harm lockdown measures far oitwieght the risks of co^!d and we thr people command and end to it right now! Ive had co^!d like 20+ others of all ages i know in the UK. Stop the lies and restore our freedom immediately!

josh slee (Honiton, 2021-09-08)

Growers, local independent butchers and fruit and vegetable shops should be able to sell and deliver contactless. Supermarkets are severely supported by the Govt, but a lot of similar businesses excluded for no good reason.

Marielle Boxem (Tuakau, 2021-09-08)

As a florist I am deeply effected by these policies that have far reaching consequences.

Matthew Bollwinkel (San Diego, 2021-09-08)

Flowers are something little that can make your day feel that much better, why waste them?

Shannen Kennedy’ (London , 2021-09-08)

#1284

I believe that cut flowers can be sold and delivered safely and it is tragic that growers are forced to confine their product to the scrap heap.

Tony Sears (Waiheke Island, 2021-09-08)

#1285

Please let flowers be an “essential” part of lockdown!!

Linda Simpson (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1288

I am a florist and understand how important it is for growers to be able to send their flower. Isn’t it more important to encourage local businesses than import from over seas?

Peri Schaeffers (Cardrona, 2021-09-08)

#1290

I really want to support flower growers - I see flowers the same way as pets they lift our spirits and support our wellbeing

Lucy Grogan (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

It is a farmed product

Penny Foster (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1294

To help keep the cost of flowers down and prevent the spikes in prices post lockdown due to high demand and low supply- and to stop the long term effect to growers on their growing cycles.

Natalie Cahill (Christchurch , 2021-09-08)

#1298

Growers need be able to save their businesses

Toni Walker (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1301

I don’t see a problem in contactless deliveries - there is no harm and this means that businesses can continue to run and sell what they’ve worked tirelessly for.

Rebekah van Tiel (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1304

I think it terrible that you can buy alcohol but not flowers! I know which is better for health and mental wellbeing!

Kylie McIntyre (Red Beach, 2021-09-08)

#1306

I am signing this because it is another COVID policy the government has got wrong

Leanne Morris (Wellington , 2021-09-08)

We need to support nz suppliers and it’s such an absolute waste of their product to be made into compost.

Siobhan Swartz (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

This is their livelihood , there has to be a way that they can operate without losing their future

Shelley Miezenbeek (Te Awamutu, 2021-09-08)

#1321

I’m signing to support my hard working friends in the industry. It is heartbreaking to see the waste and struggle that occurs to these growers during level 4 lockdowns. If you can buy alcohol, you should be able to buy locally grown flowers.

Sian Chapman (Wellington, 2021-09-08)

#1322

All producers and growers should be able to sell their produce when we’re in lockdown

Hannah O’Brien (Raglan, 2021-09-08)

#1324

Like other fresh produce growers, these businesses can work and deliver while socially distanced, and they should be treated like anyone else in the horticulture agriculture industry with perishable goods.

Sarah Quinlan (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1325

I’m signing because I am huge advocate for what flowers can do from a mental wellness perspective. They help with anxiety & depression, as well as assist with creativity. All of which feel even more important in lockdown situations.

Robin Cunningham (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1328

I believe flowers to be one of the best wellbeing tools that can be delivered contact less and its unnecessary for the growers to be losing their livelihood

Kate Herstell (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1329

As a florist I know the joy flowers can bring people, which is what people need to be able to access in level 4.

Jane Scragg (Gisborne, 2021-09-08)

This is crippling the flower farmers. It’s so sad to watch the devastating effects this is having on them 😢

Kirsty Milton (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1331

Because my parents have been growing and supplying Auckland with carnations for the last 25 years and want to continue doing so.
There is NO risk for them to continue doing so

Aaron Anderson (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1332

It’s totally ludicrous that a commodity that could be safely handled contactlessly cannot be sold and growers have to dump their income

Bev OBrien (Napier, 2021-09-08)

#1335

It's ludicrous this is happening needs to be sorted asap

Julie Taylor (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1336

I think it is important!

Laura Mortimer (Christchurch, 2021-09-08)

#1337

It’s heartbreaking to see the amount of flowers that are being turning into compost. Such a struggle for these small businesses who’s flowers don’t stop growing just because there is a lockdown in place. I believe they should be able to trade with non contact safety measures in place and spread all the joy flowers can bring in this hard time.

Kate McDonald (Whangarei , 2021-09-08)

#1343

This is an industry that is important to our economy and it's business owners. Why are we letting them sink by not allowing them to trade? How is it any different from getting a supermarket delivery or click and collect from mitre 10? Sending someone flowers is a simple yet meaningful way of bringing lightness, happiness and raising mental wellbeing in this time of uncertainty which the government says it values so highly. Why on earth aren't you letting these businesses trade Jacinda? Take your own advice and be kind and act like a business woman.

Debbie Baker (Waiuku, 2021-09-08)

#1347

Im signing because i believe flowers are essential they help boost peoples mental health and during lockdowns alot of peoples mental health suffers

Sharen Stevenson (Thames, 2021-09-08)

Karen Harcombe (Warkworth, 2021-09-08)

#1357

I want to support all our fabulous flower growers continue to stay in business. They work very hard and diversity in our primary services is essential.

Sarah Oliver (Waikato, 2021-09-08)

#1360

This should be included as an essential service

Janey Rae (Queenstown , 2021-09-08)

#1363

We need to support these growers to sell the produce they work hard to produce.

Rebecca Gaskell (Rotorua , 2021-09-08)

#1364

I'm signing this petition for flower farmers to operate under levels 4 and 3 as they can operate safety. The benefits of flowers are important for people. How can we sell alcohol in the supermarket but not flowers!

Cathy Heron (Auckland, 2021-09-08)

#1365

I believe in the mental wellbeing flowers provide people under lockdown stress, as well as wanting to support flower farmers financial stability.

Rowena Cahill (Te Kauwhata , 2021-09-08)

#1366

I am a florist by trade. I'm a small business owner working from home. I totally understand where the flowers grower's are at during this time. You give food outlets the opportunity to open and trade, yet these guys not a look in. Please please consider taking the time to think about them as well. How much time, and money goes into production. I'm sure you all have had a bunch of flowers given to you. So give these guys a break. Allow them to work and sell their products.

Kim Keeley (New Plymouth, 2021-09-08)

#1373

Flowers are essential- they light up anyone's day

I'm a florist, and this has a large impact on me

Tayla Pearless (Nelson, 2021-09-08)

#1380

I’m signing because I have worked in the floral industry for over 9 years now and I can see the benefits that receiving flowers has on people, especially in such times as isolation and lockdown. The amount of phone calls we receive from people who have ordered flowers to send to a loved one expressing their gratitude and telling us “you don’t know what this means to us” is endless. People are suffering and feel alone, flowers are a way to send a loving thought. Not to mention the family run businesses that put everything they have into growing beautiful flowers that can’t just be stored in a back room to sell once lockdowns lift, these businesses are passionate about what they do and can’t last through another lockdown! If alcohol is considered to be an essential item when it causes more harm than good, why aren’t flowers? They only bring joy or a loving thought in saddened times.

Gina Parsons (Cambridge, 2021-09-08)

#1383

Fresh flowers give us joy, peace and the feelings of connection with nature, all of which we need to get through lockdowns. Crazy to waste such beautiful powerful gifts from nature that are absolutely essential for our wellbeing.

Chako Amano (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1385

We need to support the growers. Plus flowers bring such joy and pleasure to us all.

Dee Gardiner (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1388

It’s destroying an industry and creative New Zealander, it’s a huge lost for florist and the community to not have locally grown flowers. Small growers in New Zealand and rapidly declining due to covid and not having the support from the government to continue trading a perishable product. It’s hard work being a grower let alone not being able to sell your product to the market.

Jas Dhaliwal (Auckland , 2021-09-08)

#1391

Please change your policy to let flowers be sold under Level 3 & 4

Nicky O’Rourke (Hawkes Bay, 2021-09-08)
