The Students of AP Stats are Struggling and need help

Mr. Jeff Williams has not been doing a good job as teaching AP Statistics here at our school. He teaches us through a fill-in-the-blank method which the majority of the students do not effectively learn from. It is one thing if one person is failing the class, or a few people, but a significant amount of students are either failing, or are in the ‘C’ grade range in this class, which is close to failing. This is very stressful, especially to the students that are applying to top tier colleges that may withdraw their acceptance from these students if the institution finds out about a failing grade in a class. The AP Statistics students have been trying their best to go along with the method that Mr. Williams has tried to implement, but it has just not been working.

In addition to these things, Mr. Williams has emotional issues/life issues that he takes out on his students. He began the year with a lenient policy on having phones out. Then, he got into a motorcycle accident and verbally lashed out on students for having their phones out. There has been massive dischord in the classroom due to his shaky approach to teaching. We understand that this is his first year teaching AP Statistics, but the majority of the students are not doing well.

The job of the teachers is to provide the students with the resources necessary to help them succeed. There was an incident that happened last week where he promised the students that he was going to send them a supplemental powerpoint that we asked him for to help them study for the quiz. Because a few students had their phone out, he broke his promise due to his emotional instability and lashed out saying that he would not send his students the powerpoint.

As a result, many students failed/did not finish/or did poorly on the most recent test.

There are two ways that we can fix this.

1. We can come to a general agreement of a no-phone policy in his class, completely ending the question of phones. Along with this, we also need extra credit assignments that will boost our grades to recompense the suffering that we have endured because of the unfair treatment and ineffective teaching, and will not let colleges look at us as bad students because of this situation.
2. We get a new teacher, and also extra credit assignments to boost our grades in recompense for this unfair treatment.
