Petition requesting the city to install additional streetlights on Tulip Lane, Glen Mill Rd and Shepherds Crook Ct intersection

Sign our petition requesting the installation by the city of streetlights in the neighborhood  

We, the residents of Tulip Lane, Shepherds Crook Ct on the intersection with Glen Mill Road request the installation of new and additional streetlights on these streets.  

Petition motive:

The absence of streetlights in the neighborhood is inconvenient for the residents for many reasons:

• Walking in the darkness on these streets is not safe.
• It is hard for car drivers to see the people walking or biking on the streets which makes it dangerous and risky to be outside when it’s dark. It is even more dangerous to walk on these streets because of the absence of sidewalks.
• The residents feel very insecure and in danger coming back home at night from work, school, and their other occupations because of the limited visibility which increases the risk of falling and injury.
• Women and kids are very vulnerable in this neighborhood, they feel in danger of accomplishing basic activities like going to work and school or going for a walk, or playing in the park in the evening.
• Dark streets are very appealing for criminal activities since criminals can't be seen or located.
• We live in the city and we want to be able to walk, bike, and take public transportation to go to school but coming back home in the evening represents a big challenge for us because the streets are dark. So for their safety, most people prefer to take their cars to travel which goes against the global environment vision that encourages reducing car usage.

We, the residents of these streets, consider that as citizens of the Potomac have the right to enjoy the basic installations like streetlights that would allow us to practice our activities outside in the evening without being afraid of getting hit by a car, falling, or being attacked.

The installation of streetlights is mandatory to improve our quality of life in our neighborhood. We are all equal citizens and we deserve to have the same or similar installations as the rest of the population in the borough. Streetlights are one of the basic installations that the city must provide to allow its citizens to feel safe and free.
