Allow Essential Maintenance of Golf Courses During Lockdown Period

Comments

#2401

One person maintenance of golf greens is safe regarding viral transmission. This will prevent the potential downside of loss of greens at great cost

John Rowland (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2410

The loss of recreational infrastructure is too high a price to pay when lock down compliant processes are easily instituted. It is the responsibility of Government to look after its citizens, including their future needs.

David King (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2411

Very low risk and I believe there will a considerable social and economic cost if golf clubs go broke

Michael Copeland (Paraparaumu, 2020-04-09)

#2413

It’s very important that the greens are maintained now so that damage doesn’t occur, as this will cost golf clubs around the country a lot of money which most won’t have.

John Mitchell (Clyde , 2020-04-09)

#2418

Essential to maintain the golf courses to stop any damage thst will occurr from not doing so .
Please reconsider the present rule .
Thank you

David Evans (Taupo , 2020-04-09)

#2423

My husband uses golf as his destress from working in the NZ Police, these courses are used by a large number of Kiwis and letting their condition deteriorate is ridiculous when only one person is needed to maintain these essential recreational courses.

Dorothy’s Trow (Taupo, 2020-04-09)

#2425

I golf most weekends with Friends I find it relaxing and the companionship entertaining and enjoyable. Don't worry about the fairways they recover easy as. But, the cost of repairing the Greens can be Huge and some Courses don't have the money to repair one let alone 18 Greens? 1 man on his own, where is the harm?

Tasi Feite (Porirua, 2020-04-09)

#2427

It would be tragic to allow the ruin of the nation's golf courses by not allowing their perfectly safe maintenance

Graeme Webster (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2428

If this can be done safely it is the sensible thing to do.

Jenny Tebbutt (Whakatane , 2020-04-09)

#2431

Recreation is a huge part of the kiwi culture. If golf/bowling/other clubs potentially fold there are the potential health issues associated with this -- and I will have to deal with this as a Doctor who is dealing with some of the mental health issues of Covid 19 already

Brian Thomson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2432

Golf turf maintenance is important and essential work can be performed while respecting the rules of distancing.

John Farrell (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2433

It is important to maintain golf courses mainly due to the cost of future which will be required. I am sure thus money could be used most re effectively in other areas.

Judy Jones (Picton, 2020-04-09)

#2434

It will be so hard for the course to be brought back to usable if no ongoing maintenance

Fiona Wilson (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2437

I am Chairman of Masterton Golf Club and do not want all the good work our ground staff have done on our greens to be put at risk by not being able to mow and spray them at critical times.

Andy Pottinger (Masterton, 2020-04-09)

#2438

Because the courses are going to get out of control

Tyson Matthews (Otaki , 2020-04-09)

#2442

This is an absolute necessity for clubs that may already be struggling

Murray Bond (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2443

I agree that greenkeepers should be allowed to service the course otherwise it may not be possible for some courses to survive long term.

John Leggat (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2445

I'm a golfer

Carol Jackson (Upper hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2449

I'm signing because:
(i) There is a need to prevent irreparable damage to the golf course infrastructure if greens (in particular) are not maintained (mown, fertilised, sprayed etc)
(ii) From a health and safety perspective there is a greater danger involved in an individual over 70 in charge of a rotary mower on his lawns than an experience greenkeeper using a purpose built rideon mower foir greens

Roger Girdlestone (Heretaunga, 2020-04-09)

#2455

This is a no-brainer; little to no risk to the effort to eliminate C19, and will avoid massive economic harm to many clubs providing valuable (essential!?) recreation and outdoor exercise for a wide selection of New Zealanders of all ages.

Ross Bryon (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2458

To be able to resume playing golf (or other outdoor sports) at the earliest possible opportunity after Level 4 is lifted will benefit the physical and the mental well being of the many active retired and semi-retired golfers and other outdoor sports enthusiasts

Tony Caughley (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2459

Mowing putting greens is a solitary affair, low health and safety risk, and we need to know that our wellness and recreation activity in the open air will be possible as soon as COVID-19 allows.

Steve Critchlow (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2461

I,m signing this petition as i understand that a major cost to all golf if courses are't be worked.
Social distancing should not be a problem with a good H&S safety plan in place.

Anthony McHugh (Penrose, 2020-04-09)

#2463

Golf courses in New Zealand do not have the funds to recover from lack of maintenance to their courses during lockdown. This will mean golf is not available for the population of New Zealand as a recreation which will hinder a return to normal life, and affect the mental health of many.

Richard Stringer (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#2465

I’m signing because golf course maintenance is needed while in lockdown

Kevin Mudford (Mangawhai , 2020-04-09)

#2469

It's a no brainer

Brendan Murray (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#2470

I believe the golf courses could be looked after with very limited risk of spreading covid 18 and could save golf clubs that are already very compromised

Caren Jasper (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2475

I believe our club can maintain the minimum course care without affecting the efforts to rid our country of Covid 19

Dave Waetford (Whakatane, 2020-04-09)

#2476

I am concerned that many facilities will be unable to reopen, a huge loss to communities throughout NZ. There is no logical reason for preventing essential maintenance by solitary groundstaff.

Trevor Hughes (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2477

I'm signing because the survival of our golf course is threatened by this ill conceived perception that it is unsafe to allow basic maintenance.

Andy Morison (Masterton, 2020-04-09)

#2481

To allow green keepers to maintain greens for all golf clubs in NZ

Graeme McGall (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2482

i'm signing this because if I can't get out and do essential work to the green's we will lose them to decease, being a small club if we lose the green's we would not be able to carry on and would have to fold.

Brian Hampton (7830, 2020-04-09)

#2483

I believe it is essential to the survival and wellbeing of the greens in particular. The fairways will survive but the greens need on-going care and can be looked after and keep the greenkeepers in their own bubble.

Robert Schofield (Featherston, 2020-04-09)

#2486

There is no risk of community transmission and the cost to bring the greens back could be prohibitive as there is no end date in sight for moving to lower risk levels.

Peter Betteridge (Upper Hutt , 2020-04-09)

#2487

I’m signing as a professional turf manager supporting the submission by MBIEs application for golf courses to complete essential maintenance to golf courses.

Tony Jonas (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2489

Our courses need regular maintenance ready for members to play!

Janet Petter (Lower Hutt , 2020-04-09)

#2490

I believe that basic golf course maintenance, in wide open spaces, not in close contact with anyone, will have no detrimental effects with respect to our attempts to overcome the threats of Coronovirus.
Without this maintenance, golf courses around the country will become diseased and the prohibitive cost of rectifying the current neglect will force many golf clubs to become unviable and to disappear from the NZ landscape.

darrell read (wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2494

I fully support NZ Golf in responsibly calling for the safe maintenance of greens

Peter Hallwright (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2495

As Men's President AGI Assn.

Bruce Tatterson (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2499

I play regularly and the course needs maintenance in order to be available one lockdowns are removed.

Paul Woodhams (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2502

I don't think the government are listening to our pleas, they have no understanding of maintaining a golf or bowling green.

Russ Oliver (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2503

I believe the on-going maintenance of Golf Greens, and Bowling Greens should be allowed to occur during the present Shutdown. One person working in a large open space (as on a farm) should be safe.

Annabel Leask (Oriental Bay, 2020-04-09)

#2505

I'm signing because the costs to recreation in NZ are huge, but the risks of COVID transfer to staff working independently in a tractor are minimal to nil. Work should be assessed on risk, not some arbitrary assessment of what's essential

Paul Ridley-Smith (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2509

I trust greenkeepers to stay a social distance from other employees and public.

Martin Climo (Porirua, 2020-04-09)

#2517

Come on Jacinda. Don't detroy assets unnecessarily. It will effect us all long term.

Wayne Cameron (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#2518

I support this petition as a member of Titahi Golf Club

Laureen Sadlier (Porirua , 2020-04-09)

#2519

When we are eventually allowed back to play golf we need the course to be playable. If we leave them unattended we may lose many golf courses and cost clubs hugely to try to bring them back.

Clare Woods (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2520

I'm a golfer and would like to see my golf club greens be maintained so that when we are able to play we can get on our golf course.
Thank you.

Hamzah Munif (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2524

I am signing because of the havoc it will cause golf clubs and members when the greens become unmanageable

Peter Gapes (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2525

I'm a golfer and care about golf clubs surviving

Craig Pope (Kapiti, 2020-04-09)

#2532

My golf course is an important part of my social contact in retirement. It is also a useful way to keep fit into my 70's and on into my 80's. I guess that's being selfish, but it's nice to be healthy and connected to others. Golf courses require constant maintenance to stay viable. Please help us keep a wonderful way of leisure activity. Thanks

Jaclyn Kras (Greytown, 2020-04-09)

#2536

The work can be done safely, by solo operators, and so doesn't pose a threat to the spread of the virus. However, if it is not done, many struggling golf clubs, whose members will also be facing the various effects of a recession, will be placed in jeopardy.

emily loughnan (martinborough, 2020-04-09)

#2540

Gas won't going to cut itself

Ray Tiu (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2541

Not allowing a green keeper on his own to work is demonstrating ignorance of the long term social and economic damage that will directly result from this unwarranted restriction.

John Drucker (Auckland, North Shore , 2020-04-09)

#2543

The course needs to be looked after

Bryan Munro (Dinedin, 2020-04-09)

#2544

It makes sense. Green mowing is easy to coordinate and remain within Covid19 guidelines and will save millions in recovery costs. 600,000 golfers in NZ need recreation and exercise once lockdown over.

Bob Tosswill (Greytown, 2020-04-09)

#2545

After lockdown outdoor pursuits and exercise will be a fundamental part of NZ return to normal. For many people Golf is a great stress reliever. The rule here certainly does not match the minuscule risk to sole operator greens staff. This could close some courses if it is not rectified

Luke Spence (Ashburton, 2020-04-09)

#2546

It is essential to maintain golf courses so golfers, male & female, can keep fit and well after lock-down and it’s also good for everyone’s mental health!

Ewan Warrender (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2548

Also bowling greens

Culhane Petrie (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#2553

I am the Captain of the Royal Wellington Golf Club and I know very well the consequences of there not being any essential maintenance to golf courses over a period of weeks. The direct cost to the golf sector and its many partcipants will be substantial and the indirect cost to New Zealand (through the deterioration,, and potential loss, of key recreational facilities) will also be significant

Furthermore importantly golf will be a key contributor to the stimulation and promotion of New Zealand domestic tourism once the Covid-19 emergency finishes. This will require the country's golf courses to be in good condition.

Barry Brown (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2560

Critical maintenance needs to be done during the lockdown period or it will take months to repair the damage of neglect, preventing golfers returning to normality and forcing numerous golf clubs to close permanently.

Hamish Howie (Christchurch, 2020-04-09)

#2561

I'm signing because it is safe because if you have 1 green keeper on a greens mower and another on a fairway mower if they start half an hour apart they needn't get within 100 meters of each other and courses will be playable when all the stages of lockdown are over and we get back to normal

Desmond Reid (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2565

I totally support having a green keeper doing some essential maintenance at Royal Wellington Golf Club

Carol Anderson (Oriental Bay, 2020-04-09)

#2568

I’m a member of Hastings Golf Club.

Daryl David (Havelock North, 2020-04-09)

#2574

The current policy is nonsensical and the damage done to golf courses in NZ will be immeasurable.

Christopher Finlayson (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2575

Golf is essential to my well being

Des Marshall (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2578

it will take years to recover if not maintained and can be done safely without compromising COVID-19 elimination plans

richard caughley (wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2579

A very low risk of spreading any infection. Not carrying out normal maintenance will result in damage to courses costing millions and disrupt a sport, healthy exercise for many thousands of New Zealanders.

Thomas Royden (Waikanae, 2020-04-09)

#2581

I believe there is no issue with Covid transfer
There is a financial implication if facilities such as golf courses and bowling greens are not maintained
The exercise and social stimulation are important to those participating

David Carter (Aucklsnd, 2020-04-09)

#2585

There is no risk to public safety if managed correctly and the alternative of clubs going under because of the extra costs of reparations following lockdown seems unnecessary

Steve Smith (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2589

No risk of transmission of disease as easy for workers to keep several hundred metres apart.
Golf courses are unisex and cater for all ages form 4 to 104.
Provides excellant exercise.Courses will not be usable for a long time if not maitained to great detrement of the tens of thousands who use the courses. This would be deremental to welbein of members.

Gerard Coles (Hutt City, 2020-04-09)

#2590

The economic cost to not for profit golf clubs is disproportionate to the safe work practices of working outside with a limited number of workers

Geoffrey Hill (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2591

I'm signing because I believe our club clubs are essential community services required to maintain mental wellbeing once we're out of lockdown.

Wayne Cook (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2593

I think golf course maintainence can be achieved without compromising public health and safety

Grant Murray (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)
