Allow Essential Maintenance of Golf Courses During Lockdown Period

Comments

#2803

There are many examples of sports that can be played after lockdown eg swimming, tennis, squash, cycling, soccer and rugby after a mow but a golf course requires maintenance to avoid deterioration and expensive problems

Michelle Krause (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2811

Once we are out of the current emergency life needs to return to normal as soon as possible. For most people sport and exercise are essential to a healthy and full life but a major delay will occur (also with great financial loss) if the fields, courses, greens etc have deteriorated to the extent that normal play is not enjoyable and therefore not participated in.

Ralph Robertshawe (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2812

We won’t to play golf

Paul and Sara Grigg (Ashburton, 2020-04-09)

#2813

If the greens in particular are nit maintained they will get into such a state that many clubs that are struggling financially might not be able to recover & will fold. This is not good fir NZ sport. Golf keeps people fit & is very social which is excellent for mental health!

Simon Holdgate (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2815

Golf courses need continual maintenance

Martin Riley (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2817

As a member of our local bowling club the basic maintenance of our Green is also required if we are not to lose our Green

Dennis Davidson (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2818

It will cost slot of money to sort it later

Tim Nickel (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2819

I am constantly seeing Auckland City Council mowing and trimming public parks around Devonport... which I agree are essential services. But I cannot reconcile how the government can allow millions of dollars of NZ golf course and bowling club infrastructure to be irreversibly ruined by not allowing a green keeper to tend to greens and rinks. Please allow this work to proceed under normal essential work guidelines.

Barry Williamson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2821

This needs to be done and can be done without the need for close personal contact between personnel. Golf is one game that can be played while keeping its competitors 2 meters apart.

Andy Johnson (Otaki, 2020-04-09)

#2823

Maintaining Greens and Fairways is absolutely ESSENTIAL .

J H R WALKER (Wellington ., 2020-04-09)

#2824

I'm signing because this is a sensible, no risk option to safeguard the employment of many people, and a valuable recreational facility for so many New Zealanders. One greenkeeper maintaining greens per course cannot spread Covid.

Bart Couprie (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2825

The cost of restoring Golf Course putting greens and Bowling Clubs greens to a basic standard after four weeks of lack of maintenance will be financially prohibitive for many of these clubs with the result that many will not be able to carry on operations.

Kerry Jensen (TE AWAMUTU, 2020-04-09)

#2832

I support the early approval for golf course maintenance to recommence to prevent unnecessary and costly damage and to ensure the much needed community and social facilities are available when lock-down is lifted.

Paul Williams (WELLINGTON, 2020-04-09)

#2835

Golf is a great source of revenue for the country, great exercise & good socially which is important for mental well being. If the courses are not maintained during lockdown the cost & time involved in getting them to a playable state could cause many courses to fold. Very sad & shortsighted!

Julie Holdgate (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

100 year old eco systems have to be maintained

we need our golf courses and all sports grounds for that matter

gretel dick (greytown, 2020-04-09)

#2848

Essential maintenance during the Covid-19 lockdown is integral to the short-term and long-term prosperity of our beloved game which provides wide-ranging positive benefits to our communities.

Peter Fox (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2849

Greens and courses will face irreparable damage from lack of maintenance.

Jason Eade (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2850

I believe the maintenance by a greenkeeper can be achieved safely while keeping the Alert 4 safety measures in place, and mean less expense and time required for the clubs once the courses can be open for play.

Sara Gallagher (Ashburton, 2020-04-09)

#2851

The courses are a part of our culture , and for the people who participate it is part of their health Status quo.
Geoff Smith

Geoffrey Smith (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2858

It makes common sense that the greens be maintained by the green keeper As long as this is done using separation and cleaning protocol there is very low risk.

Bart Smaill (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#2861

I am a member of both Omaha Beach and WARKWORTH golf clubs and I know that if at least the greens are not maintained their will be unrepairable damage which neither club can afford financially Golf is an important exercise and social gathering y

Martin Dancy (WARKWORTH , 2020-04-09)

#2862

i can't see any reason why a solo groundsman can't mow the greens.
and without greens we don't have any golf.

Hugh Walsh (Paraparaumu, 2020-04-09)

I'm a voter and I have a long memory on election day.

Jonathan Beckett (Perth, 2020-04-09)

#2866

Golf is an essential service! And some courses will not recover from weeks of non-maintenance.

jack matthews (Queenstown, 2020-04-09)

#2869

I am an assistant greenkeeper and a very keen golfer
Golf is a very social game and many old people only meet friends through a game of golf everyday .

Allan Robertson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2870

I'm signing because I believe that if 1 person works to maintain the key surfaces at our golf club, the risk of spreading Covid-19 is virtually zero and the cost of not maintaining the surfaces will be millions for golf clubs throughout NZ

Robert Cross (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2871

Golf courses are a very important community resource providing exercise, fresh air and society to a huge number of New Zealanders - particularly the more elderly. If the greens are not maintained courses will be lost. The risk from a greenkeeper cutting grass is minimal.

Richard Eats (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2872

This essential maintenance can easily be managed within COVID-19 rules

Liz McLean (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2880

I’m signing because i want to see golf clubs be in a good position come the end of the lockdown and if sensible distancing and safe handling practices can be maintained while the courses are looked after it has the potential to save some clubs and you aren’t going to get much more isolated than being in the middle of a field cutting grass.

Jonno Cane (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2881

It is utterly stupid to not allow basic maintenance by one person

Christopher Price (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2882

It is an important part of a golf course and after this is over all of us are going to need our sports and friends

Vicki Bryson (Palmerston north , 2020-04-09)

#2883

I agree the government and its agencies are doing a fabulous job in managing the covid 19 crisis. I would sincerely agree with this petition which does not seem to break govt lockdown rules and would prevent further cost and hardship in a way that is easily achievable.

Brett Krause (wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2884

They need to be allowed to maintain the golf courses. It would only take 1 to 2 people per courses, these 2 people don’t have to have any contact with each other either. They can wear gloves and masks as well.

Megan Middleton (Rotorua, 2020-04-09)

#2885

Concerned member who would like to see some course maintenance be allowed to happen

Barry Brennan (Wellsford, 2020-04-09)

#2888

I'm signing this petition because the risk of having skeleton staff doing basic maintenance is minimal. There is no logic to MBIE not allowing the work to take place when councils and retirement villages are maintaining parks, lawns and gardens.

John Welch (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2889

Golf is my recreation dependent on course maintenance

Barry Thomas (Island bay Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2890

It is Essential to regularly maintain golf putting greens otherwise cost to repair will be prohibitive to many golf clubs.

Don Pickering (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2891

I'm signing this petition because as a golfer and a greenkeeper I'm aware of the huge man hour commitment and costs in establishing golf greens in the first place. It's critical that they are mowed frequently as if left long they deteriorate very quickly and it's not easy to reinstate them without resowing which means they can't be used for an extended establishment period.

Chris Castle (Takaka , 2020-04-09)

#2894

Golf course greens need basic maintenance. This should be allowed where the greenkeeper lives within close proximity to the course. It is similar to me mowing my lawns at hone.

John Moreno (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2895

I'm signing because in my view it is essential that putting greens should be maintained during the lock down period. Having only one person carry out this role is low risk and crucial to the short term survival of the greens and will minimise costs for all clubs when courses are reopened again.

Terry Yee (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2897

It is of great concern to me and all golfers!

ian Young (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2902

I am a golfer and have been on the board of my club for 6 years. If greenkeepers aren't aloud to do the special care the greens need I am not sure that our club will survive.

Shelley Good (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2903

It just makes sense

Kevin Togher (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2905

The cost to golf clubs will be huge if greens are unattended & many will have to close with loss of income over the lockdown. It is a sport that is played by the very young to the very old & will be an important part of NZers mental recovery when we return to normal.

Vivien Callender (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#2909

I love our golf course and know there have been contless hours put into its creation and development over the years. To see it all wasted because our greenkeepers are not allowed to carry out basic maintenance is almost criminal. They would be performing an essential service and would be no where near another person if certain rules were put in place.

Bill Morrison (Parparaumu, 2020-04-09)

#2912

I am an avid golfer who when the lockdown is over would love to head out as soon as possible for a round of golf but in order for this to happen, the course needs to be playable, ie greens maintained

John Potts (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2914

Many courses will close, others will cost far too much to replace greens. Golf is huge to NZ tourism both from Kiwis and overseas visitors. It is madness not to allow at least one free keeper per course to mow.

Philip Tushingham (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2915

I’m signing because I believe the golf course can be maintained by individuals who can self isolate and disinfect equipment. Golf courses are member run organisations providing valuable communities for a variety of ages but significantly the elderly and retired. We operate on a knife edge of finance and would not be able to come back from the losses that would arise from fairways and greens not being maintained.

Lilias Bell (WELLINGTON, 2020-04-09)

#2919

It's people's lively hood and once this is all over it will not be the same or even to carry on for some.
There are no safety issues, more risk for the supermarket staff

Rachael McBride (South Dunedin, Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#2920

The greens require maintenance badly in order to survive. Both watering , mowing and weed control.
Otherwise they will need complete replacing at great expense and lost time.

Calvin Moon (Warkworth, 2020-04-09)

#2922

It will cost the club a fortune when it re opens

Nick Shadlock (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2930

Courses can be maintained over lockdown using safe practices. This will reduce unnecessary costs involved with repairing greens, fairways post lockdown.

Marg Ford (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2932

I love been at golf

Robyna Aitken (Paraparaumu , 2020-04-09)

#2934

The maintenance of the course is important and can be done in an open environment that doesn't have exposure to anyone outside of the one greenkeepers bubble

Stathie Tzitziras (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2936

This is a key issue for the more than 100,000 members of golf courses and the 400,000 who play at least one round of golf each year.

David Page (Fendalton, 2020-04-09)

#2939

Maintenance of greens is essential work. They may never recover otherwise, or put such financial strain on clubs that their future is in jeopardy. One worker for a day a week could save a club.

Geoff Lane (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2940

This is essential

BRIAN HOLMES (Warkworth, 2020-04-09)

#2942

I agree with this.

Brad Smith (Takapuna, 2020-04-09)

#2943

I am a golfer

Raymond Matthews (Greytown , 2020-04-09)

#2945

One person can manage mowing without coming into contact will anyone else. Also so many greenkeeps live onsite .

Paul Middleton (Methven, 2020-04-09)

#2948

I believe that maintenance can easily carried out with staff still working being at least 2m apart.
We need to have greens and fairways mown to ensure the courses do not deteriorate and also that it doesn't mean that the staff will be overloaded with work when they are allowed back. Also keeps the young people employed so they can earn a wage.

Joy Bourke (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#2949

I am a golf club member and dont want the course to go backwards

Brent Cudby (Hawera, 2020-04-09)

#2950

Secretary Kaitangata Golf Club Inc

Kevin McCabe (Kaitangata, 2020-04-09)

#2956

The government has no reason not to allow maintenance a few hours twice a week is required so that golf clubs can then operate after lock down ends.Let some common sense prevail.

Derek Millar (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2962

Nz golf courses are a national treasure and vital for the well being of our communities.

Kerry Parker (Island Bay, 2020-04-09)

#2964

It makes no sense not to allow maintenance

Clive Mallett (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2965

I think, if Tom can mow his lawns at home, why can’t Jim move his lawns at the golf club?

Grant Yarrall (LOWER HUTT, 2020-04-09)

#2973

I believe golf courses require regular maintenance to ensure they are of a good standard after lockdown. I have also seen people mowing council lawns and berms during this time. Whats the difference.

John Love (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2974

We need to maintain our greens

Alan Jennings (auckland , 2020-04-09)

#2978

this is a no brainer if councils can mow grass berms, then professional green staff surely qualify in this essential works maintaining important recreational facilities

Michael Dowd (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2979

My son lives in Dunedin and would be distraught if the golf courses fell to neglect during the lockdown.

Bev Monchamp (Niagara on the Lake, 2020-04-09)

#2980

Its much needed and safe.

Michael Blackmore (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2985

We need to do maintenance now to keep cost and the course going for the future. Please allow our greenkeeper back to work.

Richmond Winklemann (Dunedin , 2020-04-09)

#2989

This valuable work can be done whilst complying with the important restricts of social distancing and lockdown requirements.

Murray Rutherford (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2992

I'm signing this petition because I believe golf clubs provide a valuable resource/facilities for both golfers and the general public

John Eaden (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#2993

As if the council is still allowed to continue with their mowing and maintenance of parks and owned golf clubs it seems ridiculous that privately owned clubs can’t do the same

Michaela Ardern (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#2999

No maintenance now could cause extreme financial pressure to golf clubs later on

Dave Parlett (Upper hutt, 2020-04-09)
