Comments

#3203

I'm signing because I want our golf courses to have a chance of survival.

Chris Hurley (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#3207

One Greenkeepers mowing and tending greens is very low risk, both from a Covid 19 and a health and safety perspective.

Steve Henderson (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3208

We should be allowed to do basic maintenance on the greens as not doing so for a long period of time will have a big impact for every club.

Ian Garfield (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3209

Single greensman doing maintenance alone does not compromise virus transmission.

Rob Gwyther (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3210

I am a member at Avondale Golf Club. We have already had enough stress through earthquakes, rebuilds etc and had just got back on our feet again and now this. It will not harm anyone if our greenkeeper can come and mow the greens for an hour or two once a week. Too much care and love has gone into this course to let it fall apart like this.

Judith Stephens (Avondale, 2020-04-09)

#3212

It is the sensible thing to approve. There is no risk at all, except the loss of many golf courses if it is not approved. Many courses will not be able to sustain the huge cost of rebuilding greens. Please reconsider this decision.

Jeanette Hagan (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#3217

Because it is important that the courses are able to be played on once lock down has finished and it is good for members mental health.

Hugo Bunny (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3218

Failure to perform basic maintenance will almost certainly put many clubs out of business and this would have a very severe impact on tourism as wel as local players.

There is more than adequate social distancing for the one or two staff who would be involved in each course.

Rod Lyons (Kumeu, 2020-04-09)

#3220

There is no risk when managed wisely yet there is a huge cost of the greens are not mowed within the shutdown period.

Peter Quigg (Auckland , 2020-04-09)

#3225

I do not believe essential maintenance of a golf course poses a risk of Covid 19 transmission. The economic penalties far outweigh the negligible risk.

Dennis Quirke (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3226

It's a complete crock of shit.. let them maintain the course

Pete Sharlott (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3229

I agree with this petition
We must allow some staff to complete ongoing greens maintenance

Tony Rogers (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3232

I'm signing because one or 2 green keepers can manage to stay apart from each other whilst carrying out maintenance work that is needed. With clear hygiene and safety regulations and requirements in place, this should be aloud.

Nat Kinzett (Kaiapoi, 2020-04-09)

#3233

A total shutdown is incl greenkeepers is unnecessary as we are referring to open spaces and many clubs will face serious financial issues if normality cannot be expedited

Bill Cooney (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3236

Golf courses will be destroyed if not maintained

Hayden Moore (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3241

I belong to Avondale golf club

Catherine Norton (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#3243

Golf is the only sport i can participate in .I am 85 years old and need my golf it keeps me active

John Dolton (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3244

This is a total no-brainer and just needs to be allowed to happen ...yesterday please. This is one of the easiest decisions MBIE should be able to make... don't sweat things that are not hard....

Julian Long (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3246

It's common sense

Michael Seeque (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3248

to save my golf club money

Frank Walker (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3249

Solo workers doing maintenance work on golf courses or other recreation and/or sporting places should be allowed.

Chew KWAN (WELLINGTON, 2020-04-09)

#3252

The courses longevity and future need with risk of transmission being minimal I don't see the issue

Josh Tasman-Jones (Dunedin , 2020-04-09)

#3253

The groundsman is isolated and risk of transfer is non existence. Playing golf within you bubble again has no risk of transfer.

Anthony Carroll (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#3257

If racecourses can do it, why can’t golf courses?

Alyson Douglas (Porirua , 2020-04-09)

#3260

Saving my exercise weekly moment

Chris Morris (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3261

I am the Chairperson of a bowling club and we also want to perform essential maintenance of our greens

Stuart Jamieson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3263

As a committee member of my club i am worried about the future costs for recovery if we dont act quickly.

Barry Williams (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3265

Petition supported as it is imperative to preserve usability of golf courses from the point of view that they support physical and mental welfare as well as a key to recovering part of the tourism sector.

Petrr Lucas (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3271

It is a critical time of the year for Greens. If not maintained fungus will spread and destroy the greens. That will cost millions to rectify and close many courses for a long time.

John da Silva Bento (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3272

All businesses in NZ must be ready to open their operations as soon as people are allowed more freedom

Catherine Holmes (Hamilton , 2020-04-09)

#3274

It will be important for their health that people can get back to playing sport as soon as possible

Colin Furniss (Upper Hutt , 2020-04-09)

#3275

Turf not only on golf clubs but also on Bowlng greens tennis courts and many other generation old clubs are being put at risk by not being maintained. They should not become another casualty of Covid 19.

Ted Peacock (Martinborough, 2020-04-09)

#3276

I believe that we can prevent long term damage to both our course and our club while maintaining the protocols set under the isolation period

Lyncia Podmore (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3278

Considering green staff can be 200 + meters apart it's ludicrous, beauracy spiralling out of control not to allow maitainence on important and valuable assets

Don Aspinall (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3279

I agree that golf course maintenance should be allowed

Anna Ruffell (Christchurch, 2020-04-09)

#3281

Because allowance of minimal up keep on greens by one person per venue will ease reintegration back to normal life save 100’s thousand dollars and time and with safety

Matthew Goring (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3283

Love golf!

Toshihiro Noda (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#3286

I’m signing because the cost to recover will be make a number of clubs fold.

Noel Chambers (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#3288

I have family and friends who rely on this course as their sport, hobby and outlet. It's a nice course and needs kept that way

Jacinda Procter (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#3289

To not allow basic maintenance is to put in jeopardy the game of golf and Golf Clubs in NZ

Roger Brennand (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3291

There is practically zero risk of spreading the virus through this proposed activity and the economic damage done by NOT allowing this activity is completely unnecessary and easily avoidable.

Robert Hoischen (Avalon, Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3295

I believe maintenance can be carried out by individuals using equipment provided there was no interaction and distancing applies.

Bruce Peters (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3299

Totally agree

Marilyn Ives (Dunedin , 2020-04-09)

#3302

I am a member of Waitemata Golf Club, Devonport.

Diana Russell (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3303

the idea that there is a threat to new Zealand because a soul person mows a golf course is a joke

Dave Cartmell (auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3305

I am signing because golf courses and bowling greens need constant attention and all manner of management to keep them in tip top playing condition. Greens at the priority.

Golf courses are not just for the elite, any age can play and do and its great way to keep fit and active with others.

Jenny Boyne (MARTINBOROUGH, 2020-04-09)

#3310

The grounds need to be managed. It usually requires one person riding a law mower. No interaction with other people. Bowling clubs and tennis and any other outdoor sports should be allowed to maintain their ground also.

RDM Smith (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3315

We need to keep our greens viable.

Lyn Farnsworth (Poirua, 2020-04-09)

#3316

Golf is a game that keeps a huge number of our seniors fit and affords them a social outlet. If the courses are lost so is the huge social service they provide.

Roderick Gavin (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3323

Otherwise it will cost courses millions to get greens back to normal

Caerwyn Ross (Wellington , 2020-04-09)

#3324

I am signing so that golf greens can be maintained during the lockdown period to avoid unecessary costs for golf clubs nationwide

John Maetzig (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3326

I believe it is absolutely essential for golf courses bowling clubs & other public recreation areas to be maintained just as a garden does
Such maintenance would have no effect on our lockdown
It is completely unreasonable to forbid such maintenance

Michael Taylor (Lower Hutt , 2020-04-09)

#3328

It should be safe if careful with enormous long term benefits

Chris Bossley (Lower hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3330

I play golf

Nate Ngere (Manaia, 2020-04-09)

#3334

I'm a property owner living opposite our beautiful Waitemata Golf Club. Every day prior to lockdown, the greens keeper is out by himself at the crack of dawn and through the worst of weather overseeing the maintenance of the greens. It is heartbreaking to watch them being destroyed by unthinking members of the public now using the course for their daily exercise (which is wonderful, but they don't realise the damage being done). Every day we now see people walking, jumping, cycling, playing frisbee, cricket and even tennis (!!!) on the actual greens. Whats worse, is that I see council contractors out in force mowing alongside the course on grassy areas not even used by the public or essential for roading. We seem to have one rule for the council and another for the rest of us. I want our local club to survive - both for the golfers, and the public. One man out performing essential maintenance to golf courses will not impinge on social distancing rules, nor will it be an activity that could lead to the harm of the greensperson (thereby needing others to rescue them). NZ Golf should be given an exemption to allow one employee to carry out essential maintenance on golf courses.

Michelle Robson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3337

If it is good enough for the Auckland Council to cut grass on the reserve immediately adjacent and accessible to our course, and that our course is actually leased land from Auckland Council and has public access just like the reserve, this decision by the government is a case of one rule for some and not others. Its despicable

Kevin Carroll (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3339

We need to ensure that people have something to look forward to and enjoy after their great efforts of remaining in lock down to help nz in these hard times. No greens = no golf....... Please let us keep the courses alive and ready to go 👌

Jerry Sione (Helensville, 2020-04-09)

#3340

Common sense

Lance Jackson (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3342

It would impact on my family and I.

Paul Hollard (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3346

I am a golfer and think the golf course should be maintained during lockdown. Ignorant people are wrecking golf couses!

Jenny Renouf (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3347

Our course needs maintaining etc

Kelly Houghton (Waikanae, 2020-04-09)

#3352

I am aware of how difficult it is to restore fine blade grass ( as used on golf greens ) if not constant mowed.
Also our course also doubles as a public park so fairways also need to be maintained.

Martin Ford (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3353

Not different than a person mowing his lawn with a ride on lawn mower MBIE has no common sense a ridiculous decision

Dorothy Watt (Alexandra, 2020-04-09)

#3355

1 lone green keeper mowing and tending a golf course that’s closed is not going to be a problem. The cost to the clubs to rebuild these greens could ruin them.

Jaqui Bullock (Christchurch , 2020-04-09)

#3357

I want to support my local and ALL golf courses around NZ to be able to due the maintenance required now to keep them operational after the lockdown.

Hayley Hamilton (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3362

The maintenance of greens can be carried out without flouting the 2 metre rule. It is criminal not to maintain, when it may not be affordable to resurrect courses.

Margaret Germon (Papakura, 2020-04-09)

#3363

I do not think there is a great risk to the community for one person to travel to a work site and work in a sole position to maintain greens such as bowling or golf course greens to maintain the grounds.

Cheryl Mennie (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3364

Because the maintenance can be done within the constraints of the Covid19 guidelines and it will enable a swift return of revenue when the courses can re-open... rather than a lengthy recovery for the greens - if they can be saved at all.

Leanne Edwards (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3365

The land must be taken care of, not ignored or we'll be looking to MBIE to recover

TeArani Barrett (Whakatane, 2020-04-09)

#3370

Golf courses NEED maintained, A mower does not have a passenger seat, WAKE UP.

Mark Davis (Dunedin, 2020-04-09)

#3376

I'm signing as this is important as part of the socila fabric of NZ, and frankly, not being allowed to maintain golf courses or bowling rinks, or sportsfields generally is an ill-conceived notion in the circumstnaces.

Peter Holland (Paraparaumu, 2020-04-09)

#3378

There is quite a percentage of the population who depend on golf for their exercise, and companionship and therefore mental and physical well being. Many courses would not recover if maintenance is not permitted.

Heather Jared (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3379

1. Golf clubs are not in a financial position to finance repair of greens which remain unmaintained during the national lock down period.
2. The risk of spread of Covid-19 with green keepers working either alone or scattered over the area of a golf course provided hand santising is adhered to is so minimal it would have to be considered non-existent

David Young (Wellington, 2020-04-09)

#3386

Commonsense is required.

Stephen Bensley (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3387

Maintenance is essential of greens especially because the cost to replace greens would send a huge amount of golf courses to the wall

Brian Jamieson (Dargaville, 2020-04-09)

#3388

I believe turf maintenance can de done safely and it is desperately needed to ensure clubs survive the virus lockdown.

Noel Stewart (Christchurch, 2020-04-09)

#3390

The green staff need the golf course maintained now not in 2 weeks

Kevin McIntosh (Lower Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3392

Totally against irresponsible breaking of lock down. But this is a no risk activity that will save $millions plus provide untold mental stability to many thousands.

Peter MacGibbon (Hamilton , 2020-04-09)

#3394

Such a draconian insistence will kill the sport of golf and others that require quality playing surfaces.

Bob Fox (Upper Hutt, 2020-04-09)

#3395

It is fair and reasonable to allow essential maintenance on a golf course as the staff will operate safely, not endanger others, and expensive future restitution will be avoided: otherwise golf clubs will close, and communities will lose.

PAUL RICHARDSON (WELLINGTON, 2020-04-09)

#3396

Core maintenance on golf clubs should be allowed

Jill Oborn (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3399

It’s crazy to let millions of dollars of golf greens deteriorate when the council mowers are ok across the street!

Steve Jefferson (Auckland, 2020-04-09)

#3400

Basic maintenance is essential. Allowing one employee to carry out these services seems reasonable.

Campbell Walker (Singapore , 2020-04-09)
