Stop the Greytown Trust Lands Trust from holding the Greytown Community to Ransom

It makes complete sense for the council to take over this land so we can ensure it stays as greenspace for future generations like Kuratawhiti Street park. However Sid Kempton and co at the GTLT have taken a despicable route and the asking price of property that was gifted to the community should not be the deterrent of it staying with the community. This must be as close to blackmail as it gets.

Because open spaces need to be preserved for public use so that children and adults can continue to play sport etc

I'm signing because I do not want either the rugby ground or bowling green in East Street, being land already owned by the community, to be sold by the Greytown Trust Lands Trust for yet more residential land development. Both pieces of land are used to promote healthy outdoor community activities, including a community gym. I support keeping them as green spaces in an already burgeoning township.

James Routledge (Greytown, 2020-05-16)

I'm signing because I think the council needs to look very carefully at what it does. Council's priority should be water, sewerage, roads.

I can find no good reason to sell important community assets inn order to buy others. this is especially true in the difficult financial situation created by Covid19 pandemic.

This is an outrage

These traditional sites in Greytown are long standing and viewed as part of our community. They need to stay that way, and should be gifted to the SWDC to allow them to continue in their present role.

Philip Gates (New Zealand, 2020-05-19)

There are issues with water, sewer, flooding due to leaks, footpaths, lighting and more which need to be urgently sorted. SWDC has facilities in Featherston which seriously needs to be maintained. Preferably like a netball court put in the stadium in Featherston for training and the floor seriously needs to be replaced. A Sports hub is not a cost that should be paid for by the ratepayers. Featherston Sports Hub is an example paid for by the Featherston Community and maintained by the community.
Greytown can have their sports hub , but not at the expense of the ratepayers. Do not use Kuranui College as an excuse to do this, they already have the money from MOE to replace their gymnasium.

While I sypathise with the situation that Greytown find themselves in - I DO NOT AGREE that the rate payer should be the funder of this venture - I want to see substantial fundraising from the community for this. I also do NOT believe this is the right time to be asking people to give to this when we are in a national/global recession!!!

This is great wee town made better with grass root rugby supported by most of the town and the bowling club too is a fantastic place enjoyed by ALL ages!! We need them to stay right where they are!!

This hub will only benefit people in Greytown, other towns will not want to drive every time they or their kids want to do some sport. More pressing matters to be addressed and when will Featherston get some decent investment.

Cause i don't see the need for a ratepayer funďed buy back by council to pay out of the other towns share of ratepayers funds to buy this land back when it already has a rates rebate done by council and they pay towards clubs rental payment wasn't idea when council sold it at a cheap rate to Greytown trustlandstrust it was helping community and they would always be rugby club and bowls home for each sport . Its share greed or poor management of there funds so whats changed the dollar signs getting bigger for the trust trying to do a uturn and double dip acting like its there god given dam right which its not and i for one don't support it just causes me debt to over burdeon ratepayers footing the cost i see greater needs than them wasting our money .I am sorry to i don't support it .

I feel that a Trust in charge of Greytowns’ land and its management has to have an obligation to the community it serves, to provide space for sport and recreation. It can’t just all be about profits.

I think the Rugby Club should own the land that the club has been situated on for 100+ years.

Doug Fairbrother (Greytown, 2020-05-24)

I’m signing because I believe this land belongs to the town of Greytown and it’s residents. I also think it’s time the GTLT opened its books up to our town to review and understand how this money is being spent.

I have no issue with the idea of what's been proposed, except for the ransom being demanded of council, by the GTLT. IF the GTLT, and community of Greytown it is supposed to represent, truly believes in the proposed sports hub, but is unable to further invest the time or financial obligations required, it should either gift the land to council, provide it on a fee free 100 year lease, or provide council a sports development grant to the total of that required to purchase the land from them.

Ben Keetley (Featherston, 2020-05-25)

As Greytown continues to grow green spaces need to be preserved for the future. They are easy to lose and hard to gain. Exercise and open spaces are good for both mental and physical wellbeing and we need these facilities now and in the future. The GTLT are probably (rightly) focused on their task of increasing the funds they hold, but community wellbeing is measured by more parameters than the dollar value of assets. It's up to the community to look at the bigger picture and assist the GTLT in making a decision that looks at the long term and the full range of benefits of retaining these assets in the community’s hands.

Peter Thompson (Greytown, 2020-05-25)

This is really not ok. These grounds are an important part of our community.
How do we encourage our community to be active if the sports grounds become housing?!

As a South Wairarapa ratepayer I object to any rate increase to fund this proposition. If the GTLT have the money then they need to use this and stop residents and ratepayers feeling threatened by their actions.

Jan Chaplin (FFeatherston, 2020-05-26)

#156

We are feeling really strongly that Featherston is always at the bottom of the list with the big spend, eg The UGLY buildings in Featherston ?????, never enough funding for Court Costs, really... very disappointed

Sue Death (Featherston , 2020-05-27)

#164

The whole situation is ridiculous the land is owned by the Greytown community, SWDC shouldn’t have to buy it back for the community.

Rachel McKenzie (Featgerston, 2020-05-29)

#165

I do not believe this is a priority spend for the SWDC. This is not a spend that should even be funded by the wider SW community.

Jen Bhati (Featherston, 2020-05-29)

#168

I disagree with GTLT essentially holding the community and council to ransom for what appears to be commercial gain. I do not believe this is aligned with the aims of the trust.
