Keep the O'Neill's Road Pedestrian Level Rail Crossing Open!

I really want the crossing to stay open as a cyclist, I try to bike everywhere as a commute, to go shopping, to visit friends, not just "for fun" but to keep carbon out of the air and one less car on the road. Closing vital crossings like this makes it even less attractive to be on a bicycle.

Annalily van den Broeke (Swanson, 2023-05-03)

#202

It should stay open.

Lexi Prebble (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#204

I’m signing because I want my mokopuna to have the opportunity to walk to school safely like I did when I was going to school. The area is growing rapidly and this is the safest route to school. Thanks, Sue

Sue Holm (Tauranga, 2023-05-03)

#205

Closing this will force people to use cars and more traffic and pollution.

Paul Smith (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#206

I strongly dissagree with closing the level crossing. It is the safest way for O'neills rd or Penihana residents to access Swanson Rd by foot.

James Buchanan (AUCKLAND, 2023-05-03)

#207

Our daughter is at pineapples and it’s the Safest route to get yhete

#208

I am a teacher of a local Early Learning Centre where many children and their families use this crossing to walk safely to our centre, it would be a shame for these families to have to find other means of transport.

Hayley Soar (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#209

I have lived adjacent to this crossing for 25 years & to my knowledge there has never been an accident . There is great visibility both east & west directions to look for hazards
The crossing provides an important link for the community

Angela Lennan (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#210

Keep the crossing

Frank Smillie (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#211

This pedestrian crossing is an important link to the Swanson centre and is used regularly by lots of members of the community including school children. There is no valid reason to close it. The only change I would like to see is a pedestrian safety gate as used at the Ranui train station pedestrian crossing. Please do not close the pedestrian access at O’Neill’s Road.

Wendy Roe (Auckland , 2023-05-03)

#212

I support keeping the rail crossing at O’Neills Rd Swanson open and making it safer. Closing it increases community severance, reduces inclusion, and complicates access. The response to a potential safety and rail efficiency issue is to make it safer for all users, including the rail operator. The unacceptable response is to close the access and create multiple adverse impacts for our community.

Jannette Farley (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#217

I support all the parents and children who wish to keep this crossing. I support their reasons for wanting it to remain.

Sheilagh Sutherland (Auckland , 2023-05-03)

#219

I think closing this crossing would be a big, dangerous mistake.

Steve Perlstein (Swanson , 2023-05-03)

#220

Public services should facilitate walking /biking access not reduce it. I use that crossing regularly to do a 6 km walking loop for exercise. I see no good reason to close it but certainly to make it safer.

Suzanne Loughlin (Auckland, 2023-05-03)

#222

I use this crossing all the time - the crossing/lift at Swanson Station is often out of action as i am in my mid 70s the stairs are a hassle. Why could you possibly need to close this crossing ' stupid.

It makes no logical sense to close this crossing. With the amount of housing development happening in this area, Council should be making it more accessible, not less. We and many others use this crossing regularly to access school, daycare and shops. Closing it will only force people into cars as the alternative routes are longer and less safe. Add an automatic gate if safety is a concern.

Natalie Allison (Auckland, 2023-05-04)

#224

It is the safest walking route for children and dogs

Frana Divich (Auckland, 2023-05-04)

#225

We regularly use this crossing when out walking. We need to keep community links open and encourage walking and easy access to all parts of the community

Denese Davis (Auckland, 2023-05-04)

#230

My grandchildren walk to Swanson school from the south side and I am very concerned for their safety. I have walked the current route with them and think the AT plans will severely compromise child safety and are detrimental to the Swanson community as a whole.

Elisabeth Petrie (Kerikeri , 2023-05-04)

#232

Myself and my children use this crossing regularly and would hate to see it be taken away. It’s an integral part of our neighbourhood.

Laurel Urban (Auckland, 2023-05-05)

#233

I use this regularly and it would inconvenience me greatly having this pedestrian closed.

Storm Murphy (Auckland, 2023-05-05)

#234

My grandchildren go to Swanson School

Kelvin Petrie (Kerikeri , 2023-05-05)

#235

I use this crossing daily for our school run. The alternative routes are more dangerous I.e. unreliable (I.e. elevator often broken a train station, hard to cross with pram, bikes etc.).

Vera Boessenrodt (Auckland , 2023-05-05)

#237

I'm signing because I DO NOT want the rail crossing at O'Neils road closed.

Jason Parker (Swanson , 2023-05-05)

#238

I use this crossing frequently and if it closes I’ll have to revert to driving - not healthy and not good for the environment- can’t see any point in closyit.

Meg Beswick (Auckland , 2023-05-06)

#240

This is the best crossing for the kids

Matthew Kellerman (Auckland, 2023-05-06)

#241

I live in Swanson on the Fletchers estate. This crossing has been essential for getting my kids to the Pineapples daycare and Potentially Swanson school in the future. Being able to walk using this crossing provides a sustainable alternative to using my car which I believe is the right thing to do. It would be a real shame if this was to close and frankly reflect poorly on the badly run Auckland Transport

Sam Cannon (Auckland , 2023-05-06)

#242

Closing this access would make it so hard to get to facilities in Swanson village. Lifts at train station keep going out of order it would be awful for people with disabilities.

Dani Sempers (Auckland, 2023-05-06)

#243

It means less taking my car out and keeps our community connected.

Joanna Dugdale (Auckland , 2023-05-06)

#246

I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed closure of the O'Neill's Pedestrian Crossing. I strongly believe that this crossing should remain open and made safer for the benefit of the community.

As a parent, I use this crossing to walk my children to both Swanson School and Pineapples Daycare. It is the safest route for us to take, especially when we have bikes, scooters, prams and dogs. The closure of this crossing would not only inconvenience me but also many other families in the area who rely on it as a safe means of getting their children to school and daycare where they don't have access to cars.

Moreover, the O'Neill's Pedestrian Crossing is also a safe walking route for those who like a Friday night beverage at the RSA. Closure of this crossing would force people to take longer, more dangerous routes home, putting them at risk of accidents and injuries.

I urge Auckland Transport to reconsider the decision to close the O'Neill's Pedestrian Crossing and instead, work towards making it safer for all pedestrians. Please take into consideration the needs and safety of the community when making your decision.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We are a local business that will be affected by this change to foot traffic momenys

Amy Fraser (Auckland, 2023-05-07)

#249

So many decisions like this get made by people sitting in offices with no full appreciation of the local context. They work on a standardised “tick a box” methodology without full consideration of the trade offs that can occur. With many new housing developments coming on this side too, it is ridiculous that this route would be closed. Especially when it is only the infrequent daily goods train that uses that section of track. But pedestrians cross there frequently. The new CEO pledged a concern and interest in higher engagement, understanding of and reflection of local community interests in decisions made. This proposal does not reflect that.

Ashleigh Peterson (Auckland, 2023-05-08)

#251

We have been using the crossing most days for a number of years while working our dogs I’ve never seen or experienced any near misses or incidents at the crossing.
It is a well used crossing as other alternatives are much further away.

Ellie Ryan (Auckland , 2023-05-12)

#269

I live in the area and use this crossing regularly. It is accessible and useful!!!!

Jenna Bone (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

My daughter walks this route everyday.

Rebecca Samson (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#272

I believe the crossing should remain open and accessible to local residents.

Louise Grevel (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#276

For me this crossing is definitely a lifeline for those getting accross safely with kids going to daycare or to Swanson Primary. This crossing is particularly helpful when the Train station lift is unaccessible. I take my bike when I pick up my kids from daycare and this is so far the safest way for me going home with the kids in tow.

Neeko Catalan (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#278

Swanson needs pedestrian access at this location to maintain essential access to foot traffic routes that are regularly used by many.

Penelope Butler (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#279

We regularly use this crossing. Those with prams and bikes getting to school cannot be expected to take the much longer and staired route. This access is part of what attracted us to the area.

Nicola Edie (Swanson , 2023-05-12)

#281

I live in the area and feel this is the safest route to cross for access to the local school, daycare and shops

Dayna F (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#283

I use this ped crossing every day, to get to and from the train station. The other crossings are very far away, in more dangerous places (dark and scary roads at night, or needing to cross main roads). It is a crucial pathway for the Swanson community and there have been no accidents there. It will also become an important crossing for the new subdivision that is being built with 250 new houses.

Jenny Knight (Auckland, 2023-05-12)

#287

This is the easiest way to Swanson, and is safe

Rachel Bouchet (Auckland, 2023-05-13)

#288

The decision to close this pedestrian crossing will decrease the walkability and permeability of this neighbourhood. This is exactly the opposite of best practice urban planning. The crossing at the station is inaccessible for people with physical impairments, cyclists, parents with strollers, elderly people- due to the high frequency of faults in the elevator. It is essential that this crossing remains open. Failing that, a bridge with ramps needs to replace it. Simply closing it would be an incredibly shortsighted decision.

Jonathan Rankin (Auckland , 2023-05-13)

#291

this is a very improtant crossing that people use to access the train station/Swanson village.

Craig Hale (Auckland, 2023-05-13)

Pls keep this crossing and perhaps make it safer with electronic gates

#301

I use this crossing Monday to Friday to get to work to go down to Candia road and try to cross that road is to dangerous I will end up driving which I thought the idea was to get people out of their cars

Dorene Wright (Swanson, 2023-05-15)

#302

As a Swanson resident who believes this crossing is alot safer for young children (like my child) to cross (avoiding the busy main road).
It also doesn't make any sense to close this crossing, especially since there is now a huge housing development literally right next to it 🙄. Council needs to listen to those who actually use these facilities before implementing plans to remove them

Rachel McCallum (Auckland, 2023-05-16)

#303

I use this crossing every day to get to work.

Peter Cronin (Auckland , 2023-05-16)

#306

This crossing is a very important way for people in the swanson community to walk from one side of Swanson to the other. I use it regularly myself. Keeping the crossing is an important support to maintain and encouraging walking as the best, most eco-friendly way to access educational places and shops.

Robin Webster (Auckland, 2023-05-17)

My wife and I use this crossing 5 days per week. We usually see others using it when we're in the vicinity. It is so useful and beneficial for the already large and still growing community to have this crossing.
Vision is long and clear 360 degrees around this crossing so it is extra safe.

I want the crossing to be kept

Carlo Camus (Auckland, 2023-05-25)

#317

I use it everyday on my walk. if it closes I will have to walk too far to do my loop and I can't walk closer to home as my street has no footpaths and a high speed limit and dangerous drivers. There are always plenty of people using the crossing.

Robyn O'Sullivan (auckland , 2023-05-25)

This is a very well used crossing, we need to keep it open

Carol Scott (Auckland, 2023-05-28)

to whom it may concern.
as a frequent user of this crossing i am aware of the amount of use it has, whether it’s primary school kids going to school or people accessing the train station and other near by locations or just going for a walk around swanson. with the new subdivision going in next to it i strongly believe that it should NOT be closed because more and more people are going to want to use it. there has never been an incident at that crossing involving a pedestrian. my family have lived in swanson for over 50 years and i know that we and other family’s that have lived in the community for a length of time would be highly upset if you choose to close this crossing. i understand that it is within a certain distance from the station, however as i stated above, a large number of local residents use this crossing on a daily. it would be highly upsetting if you close it. i propose an alternative option for you to consider, re open the road back up. or don’t close the crossing. a large number of people would utilise this road more if it were open as a full road rather than having to go around. especially with the new subdivision going in at yozins orchard. please consider this as an alternative to closing the crossing all together.
please choose wisely as this will be effecting a large number of the community in swanson.
cheers, Zoe Price of Oneills road swanson.

#327

I use the crossing regularly to access Swanson Rd as do the Swanson Rd school children every school day.

Sharon Lepper (Waitakere/Auckland, 2023-06-07)

#328

I'm signing because it's ridiculous dismantling a crossing that is serving this area well. The alternative of pedestrians (including) children using Candia Rd North to get to Swanson Rd, is dangerous as there are no pedestrian crossings on the route.

Graeme Lepper (Waitakere/Auckland, 2023-06-07)

#332

My granddaughter and I enjoy walking, skating,
and scooting over this safe crossing. When the construction firms complete building rejoin the footpath it will connect with Swanson Road and link the two villages of Swanson and Ranui. School children face a much more dangerous crossing at Candia Road. Being able to circle Swanson already suits many people walking, riding bicycles , pushing push chairs, mobility vehicles or running. The train driver has a good clear view in both directions. Bells and lights make this a safe crossing. Why remove it. Take a walk and you will see why locals enjoy this.

Rosslyn Smillie (Auckland, 2023-06-24)

#333

I'm signing because as a longtime resident of Swanson (25 years) I see this crossing as an important and essential pedestrian linkage from one side of the railway to the other providing easy, safe walking access for locals to connect with their community amenities and services.

Vivien Burgess (Swanson, 2023-06-26)

#336

I use this crossing daily and its really convenient and there is more than enough visibility as well as the signals.

Kerry Vujnovich (Auckland, 2023-07-18)

#337

I use this crossing often. It is an easy access to Swanson road and schoo.

Purvi Kakadiya (Auckland , 2023-08-08)

#338

I use this crossing a lot, it will be a loss to the community if it is closed

Jacob Backhouse-Smith (Auckland , 2023-08-20)

#339

Closing this crossing is completely contrary to AT's stated aim of getting/keeping people out of cars as the alternatives are either too long and/or too dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.
