They look terrible , they are in the way every where, Abe the confuse the street so completely unsafe .. they don’t really have a purpose ..

They are just a giant hazard.

I agree with all of the above reasons. They are a hazard and an obstruction. There are other areas of the community that they could be usefully placed and appreciated but not on the road making life hazardous for cyclists, cars and pedestrians.

The planter boxes on Aranui Road are a Hazard and serve no useful purpose.

These boxes are a sad idea. They are cheap and ugly, will rapidly deteriorate, and will become subject to vandalism. They do not improve road safety and there are better solutions to encourage slower speeds. The concept that they add visual amenity by way of "greenery" is tokenistic nonsense. They could for instance be replaced with attractive tall trees, in consultation with a community-appointed (independent) Landscape Architect. Mapua is a boutique village that deserves far better than this ill-thought-out eyesore.

I’m signing because I support the majority of reasons as stated in this petition:
I work in the centre of the village. From observation, these planter boxes may be lower than parked cars but have not proven yet to remarkably reduce the speed of vehicles being driven through the village;
the greenery is ill-chosen. It requires regular watering, looks tatty already, and regular maintenance adding to cost will only encourage growth in height & bushiness, thereby voiding the whole purpose of their existence;
they’re ugly and cheap looking;
they have reduced the number of car parks along Aranui Road which has affected local businesses;
road sweeping is affected, causing build-up of leaf & other litter;
Irrelevant and don’t make sense.

Those boxes are hideous, serve no useful purpose and need to go🙋🏽

These things are a joke thought up by an idiot.

These are a hazard, an eyesore and steal parking from local ratepayers.

It has wrecked the look , vibe, parking, accessibility. Stupidest idea ever!

They are ridiculous. Add extra obstacles for both motorists and cyclists. Why would you remove parking spaces in an already over crowded community. No parallel parking required with yellow lines in their place. An embarrassment.

The boxes are not of benefit but instead take away parking spaces/pickup points. Also unsafe and unsightly.

To protect the beautiful place I call home and have since I was a young child. Keep Mapua beautiful - if we wanted to live in ugly Richmond we would. Leave us alone.

They are a traffic hazard and an eyesore. If I owned one of the properties deprived of on-street parking I would very unhappy. I will continue to ride my bicycle along the footpath, as the reduced width road is too dangerous.

They are unsafe, unsightly, and adversely affect businesses

They are taking up valuable parking space in an area that is already congested with traffic. It makes it difficult for cyclists to navigate around the structures and they are in fact a hazard. There is just no need to have them in that space!!!

The planter boxes are an expensive 'temporary' eyesore. They block the drains, they are a parking hazard, they look ridiculous and they re a hazard for cyclists.

I do not agree with the planters boxes or the cycle lane along Aranui Rd.
As a cyclist I find it unsafe using the the cycle lane, it is too narrow, it is dangerous as it weaves up & down between the road & the footpath, it has narrowed the road & doesn’t allow vehicles to pull off the carriage way to collect someone walking along, it has taken multiple parking spaces away unnecessarily, it has impacted businesses in front of the cycle lane, it is adding to the isolation of the elderly due to not being able to park outside their homes.
This past summer I have used my car more & my bike much less than past summers because of the lack of safety I feel while cycling along Aranui Rd towards the village & wharf.
I felt much safer on Aranui Rd before the cycle lane was developed.
The extended path on the western side of Aranui rd is great & much appreciated.

Because they are intrusive and very unnecessary.
I damaged my car with one, costing me $450 in insurance excess, which I will be seeking compensation for. I have seen others injured biking into them.
They take up much needed car parks and don’t look nice. They need maintenance & money should be put into local health or education.
And as for the cycle way…

I’m signing because I nearly hit one the other day. A car crossed the centre line by the tennis courts and forced me to the left. I just had to stop or I would have ploughed into one. Imagine an old person with slow reflexes! Plus they take away valuable parking space where there is already a real lack of.

They are ugly, dangerous and unnecessary.

They are an eyesore & I believe a stepping stone to 15 minute city concept
