The Citizens' Alliance and The Residents of Greater Kailash ward say " NO" to the proposed opening of the Barat Ghar at Uday Shanker Park

Hon’ Lieutenant Governor Sir,

The Citizens’ Alliance and the residents of the Greater Kailash ward would like to lodge their protest and appeal to you to stop the proposed opening of the Barat Ghar at Uday Shankar Park Greater Kailash II. Uday Shankar Park is located at the mouth of a road which provides access to the residents of GKII , CR Park and Alaknanda  while coming from the ring road. The traffic under the Savitri flyover is heavy at any given point of time . The proposed Barat Ghar will act as a catalyst for massive traffic jams extending right upto Chirag Delhi flyover and beyond. The vehicular traffic at Savitri underpass has already multiplied with the advent of the entry and exit gates of the metro station . Traffic increase due to the rise in the number of cars will make daily office commute for residents a nightmare

A similar “So called community center hall “ is at Alaknanda next to Aravali apartments. It was initially proposed to be a library cum community centre hall. The library never did surface and the hall is being used only for marriages. During the season every day is a nightmare for residents of Aravali apartment . The marriage processions burst crackers galore and sometimes to such an extent that the air is full of smog. Loud music is played well above the decibals permitted and most of the time well into the night. Constant calls to the police station give respite for a few minutes and the minute the police leave its back to square one. The hall is booked by people who are not residents of this area and security has become a large concern for the residents . It is unsafe for people to move around right outside the apartment gate as a number of times there are un savory elements drinking in cars and passing lewd remarks. Not withstanding this chaos , the residents are disturbed well into the night by the workers dismantling the spoils of the event and loading them on trucks till the wee hours

We would prefer if the allocated space is turned into a public library with indoor games facility and a café .
