The proposed new name severs all historical ties, including ties with the people for which it serves.

I'm signing because I am from Hawera, went to this school and this name suits the school better than the name gifted.

I am Hawera born and bred. I attended HTHS/HHS from 1961 to 1965. I find the notion of changing the name of the school offensive to me as if history and tradition mean nothing. You may as well rip the hearts out of all ex-pupils and cast them into the pit of obscurity, forgotten.

Historical reasons. Leave it as it is.

I was born and breed in Hawera and attended Hawera High school. I feel this name truly represents the region.

Im signing because the name chance is NOT culturally inclusive of the area, OR New Zealand as a whole it is significant to only a single culture, and does not convey WHAT the establishment is or does, if a Maori name is a must, Te Hāwera Kāreti is more appropriate.

I attended a powhiri with Te Kura o Te Aute on Saturday 17 September 2023.
I as an uri of Nga Ruahine carried the embarrassment of not only my son who attends Te Aute also for ngā iwi o Taranaki. It may not be important to some however within Maoridom it is a big part of tikanga to offer your Manuhiri some sort of refreshments at the conclusion of a Powhiri to which was not offered us Te Whānau o Te Aute. Our 1st XV young men were shown where to dress and train before the 11.30am game held at Bailey Park.
After the game I made it a point on behalf of my son to make a humble apology to Te Aute for the disrespect shown toward them after the powhiri.
My question to the Board of Trustees of this School yes School NOT Kura (after that embarrassment) is this how Te Paepae o Aotea acknowledge their Manuhiri?

It should have a meaningful understandable name.
